Hilton HHonors - Diamond VIP reservations guarantee experiences

I was wondering what kind of experiences other Diamonds have had when trying to book a room under the Diamond VIP reservations guarantee.

I have only had to use this option twice.

My first time was a disappointment. Was unable to get a reservation at the Hilton Singapore last year in September. I called well before the normal 48 hours check in period but the reason they gave me for no availability was due to an 'Extraordinary Demand Date'. It was during the inaugural Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix & pretty much every hotel in Singapore was sold out.

My second experience last night was great. I was trying to book a room in a particular hotel in Time Square for New Year's Eve but it was showing sold out. I called the Diamond Desk & not only was the agent able to get me a room, he was able to make a reward reservation for me.

I love this benefit.

I have had a few successes. One at the Hampton in Arlington, VA, one at a Hampton in San Angelo, TX and one at the Rye, NY Hilton. None were very exotic locations but being able to get a room a few days in advance in an otherwise sold out situation was very useful. In all cases, the rates were very reasonable.

I also tried once at the Logan Airport Hilton. I could get a room but the rate was something like $600 and there was no way I was going to be able to expense that. I got a room that night at the airport Hyatt for less than $200.

Last experience was when the Diamond desk rep told me I couldn't use points for a "sold out" room. (turns out there were rooms thus sold out in quotes)

It was more than 48 hours out and could have the room but only at some outrageous rate - no points. Had to get the supervisor to straighten it out.
