I'm looking to fly HKG-ICN in November and I know Asiana flies this route, however no way of booking tix apart from through a TA!!!

I did call Asiana in HK and was told they can only sell me full fare tix and I would have to contact a TA to book discounted tix.

I did try a couple of TAs (that Asiana suggested) but was told they have no fares available for November flights.

I find this very strange that you can't book Asiana tix from HK. The website for sure doesn't let you book them and Zuji, Priceline, etc don't seem to have Asiana fares at all.

Take a look at this post

I think some may have suggested where to buy
but if you cannot even get it from TA, then either consider another airline or just have to pay full fare

First question I have to ask you: Why you don't want to buy from a TA ?

There are so many TA in Hong Kong, and all areas in Hong Kong has several of those big chain TA. Or I should say there are thousands of TA in Hong Kong, as there are so many of them, all airlines, not just OZ suggest you to buy from TA, as they can choose you whatever you want, let you know the promotion period and choose the seat you want.

No one would buy airline ticket thru website or airline office in Hong Kong, as it is just really easy, look around and many of those TA are within walking distance to your home or work.

If you are base in Hong Kong, you should know better there is Hang Lung Center in Causeway Bay (next to Windsor Hs), they have two floors with 20 different TA, go to each one and ask for the price.

Hi

Thanks, yes, am aware of the amount of TA's in HKG. I have used TA's in the past on several occasions, however I have found them to be very inflexible and very inefficient and there is so much leg work involved in finding a decent one.

Also a lot of TA's charge you for using your credit card (which the Consumer Council in HK have viewed as not allowed, but like many things in HK the practice still goes on).

Finally, I have generally found booking online (through the like so of Zuji or the airline website direct) prices online are cheaper than booking through a TA.

However it seems if I do want to fly with OZ I will have to book through a TA.

I found the TA in Hong Kong basically honor my request everytime (not sure if it is because I show them my UA*G card so that they know I am a frequent flyer, they are not going to do any tricks to me :D), even told me some promotion that I didn't know about. One time I had a NH F award, with HKG-NRT has no C or Y availability, so I ask which airline that I can fly the cheapest one way. I choose NH as no matter what I still have to overnight in NRT, so that I don't need to get up that early for the UA or NW flight, they can also point out they have a promotion about purchasing Y or B class would earn me a Kei Wah Bakery $200HK gift certificate. The TA also enter my UA # into the booking. I had never once got charged when using credit card, or any of my family or friends when booking in large chain companies, perhaps it is those small TA only advertised in newspapers ?

Finally, I have generally found booking online (through the like so of Zuji or the airline website direct) prices online are cheaper than booking through a TA.

Booking online is good if one is in US, not in Hong Kong. Some people may find deals on CX website, but as far as I know not any other airlines. I would choose online thru expedia or airline website anytime instead of a TA in the US. As TA charge fees in US but not in Hong Kong yet. Airline in the US wouldn't pay the commission to the TA anymore but still do in Hong Kong except several airlines.

Like I said I just went to the big name companies like wingon travel or hongtai, they had so many branches. I went to the one closest to my Hong Kong home.
