Dear MayorMcKnife,
Did you know your Hilton HHonors® Diamond VIP status will expire at the end of March 2010? You may not be on track to maintain your status beyond that date. Because we’re privileged to have you as a member and want you to continue to receive the benefits you deserve, we’re offering you a special opportunity to help you maintain your Diamond VIP status.
Simply complete seven stays at participating Hilton Family hotels worldwide between September 1 and November 30, 2009 , and we’ll extend your tier status for another year. That means you’ll have until at least March 2011 to enjoy all your Diamond VIP benefits, including complimentary room upgrades or amenities, a 50% bonus on all HHonors Base points earned, and guaranteed reservations when made within 48 hours of your stay*.

I received a different targeted. Would rather have the 7 stays offer.
We’ve noticed you may be in danger of losing your status as a Diamond VIP member in March 2010 in the only guest loyalty program to offer Points & Miles® for the same stay and No Blackout Dates.
We’re offering you an opportunity to keep your Diamond VIP privileges: simply apply by October 15, 2009, and be accepted for the Hilton HHonors Card from American Express.1
You’ll continue to enjoy the extra advantages and comforts you get every time you check in at a Hilton Family hotel.
Plus, you’ll earn up to 62,500 HHonors bonus points with your Card—good for up to 6 free nights:

Funny my biz travel has been cut significantly, and I'm at just 8 stays this year, and may be lucky enough to have enough stays for Gold. I already have the HHonors AMEX, and have heard nothing from Hilton.
Oh well, I may do a couple of mattress runs. There's still a few deals in the Phx area. While I'd like to keep Diamond, I'll settle for Gold.

If you can spend 40k in a year then you can keep Diamond on the Surpass card. I'm tempted to just make Diamond that way and give more nights to SPG (80+ nights at HH this year so far).

perhaps they think my Platinum status is a hopeless cause.
But, at the same time, I'm no longer convinced Platinum status is worth any additional effort. At some properties, it gets you two bottles of water. Period.
At other properties, you have to pry the benefits out of them.
By my math, less stays = more money in my pocket, with which I can buy the higher status rooms, free breakfasts, etc. without having to to beg the front desk for them-- and still come out ahead, money wise.
I recommend FTalker'sdo the math before taking any mattress runs.

She said, 'well a month after we gave you fasttrack to gold, we changed it to diamond fast track'. So now at 15 stays YTD, I'm just finnishing my 7th for Diamond.
Good to call and ask, you may have a fasttrack that you didn't know about.

Several things concern me for the vague T&Cs on this. They state "Simply complete seven stays at participating Hilton Family hotels worldwide...", but don't give a link to which are participating. Can I assume all properties count? And they don't state that they must be paid stays. Can I assume that reward stays will count?
IME - very few HH promos are completed "simply". Including my last two. They involved lots of screen shots and calls to the DD.

I got just the "reminder" email, no offers. I'm currently at 14 stays/34 nights/56k points for the year, with 10 more stays/23 more nights booked through the end of the year. I'll only need 3 more nights after that to maintain Diamond so I'll probably figure out some sort of trip to make that happen.
I was targeted last year with the 7 nights by the end of the year promotion, but they sent it to me later in the year, in early October.

No e-mails for me. I dropped to Gold status last year due to a change in employment and 2 months of no travel between jobs. I'll actually be checking into a Hilton tomorrow and have at least 2 more reservations before the end of the month, bringing me up to at least 24 by Oct. 1st.
I should reach Diamond again (provided they don't change the rules again) well before the end of the year. However, I'm thinking about trying out another hotel's program next year - maybe Priority Club (Intercontinental Hotel Group).

I called DD (twice) and was eventually told that award stays count towards the fast track promo. And why shouldn't they since award stays count towards re-qualifying normally? And the email didn't say "paid" or "qualifying" stays.
It was interesting that they mentioned part of the fast-track that's not in the email is 4 stays during the period will get me Gold. But I've already passed Gold by 10 nights, so it's not material.

I don't have $40,000/year in spending. What I do have goes on my US Airways card, as $25k converts to 10k EQM. Tough call whether Star Gold or HH Diamond is more important.

Well, I did that very thing when this thread started and I saw that some people, not me, received a Fast Track offer. The person I spoke to said that it would be brought up with a supervisor and the decision board that decides who gets these offers.
Earlier today, I received an email from a person at the Hilton Customer Service Center that missed the point entirely since there's no mention of my request for a Fast Track; it came from Priority_Letter@Hilton.com:
"Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding your Hilton HHonors account.
Membership levels for our Hilton HHonors members are all set to expire in April, 2010. During the month of April, the Hilton HHonors program exercises a re-qualification process that determines if members will retain their current membership level. Every year the re-qualification process is different and many factors may be taken into consideration to determine if members will retain their membership level; unfortunately we are unable to provide specifics. We will not be able to extend you status today, however, you may follow up in April 2010, at which time we will review your account and determine if we are able to extend your Diamond VIP level past the April expiration date based on the re-qualification process."
Well, I wasn't asking for a guarantee now that I'd somehow be given Diamond but had requested some form of Fast Track, and responded to the email that way, noting that I'd read how others here had been offered such. Well, I put it more politely in the email.
I'll now copy the email I received and send it to hhonors@hiltonres.com to see if that works.
BTW, I have 7 or 8 stays coming up over the next 10 days. We'll see if I can get them counted as a Fast Track, or if I get some other kind of offer, if any offer at all.

From HH web site (link (http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/about/diamond.do)):
To Qualify
Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP membership will be awarded to Members with 28 stays*, 60 nights* or 100,000 Base points earned during any calendar year. A "night" is a night that is part of a "stay," as that term is defined herein. Base points earned will count toward Diamond VIP tier qualification. Bonus points earned on Base points do not count toward VIP tier qualification.

I am a Diamond member with 7 stays this year (business travel has been curtailed, and I also have been forced to stay at other chains several times) and I received the offer with the credit card -- apply for the regular AMEX and be approved, and get Diamond for another year. I've had mixed success with Diamond, but free (other than the credit hit, which is no big deal to me) is free, after all. I'm leaning towards taking them up on the offer.

My wife called and they pretty much told her tough luck. She's been Diamond for five years with 60-70 stays per night but was grounded this year due to the birth of our twins. Her travel will pick up again in October.
We were pretty surprised that they wouldn't even offer her a challenge. A big chunk of her stays are in New York, which are high dollars, and she was more than happy to accept some sort of challenge, since she knows her travel will be picking up.
We all know that loyalty programs are in place to influence future travel, not reward past travel, and that seems to be what Hilton did here; I've been encouraging her to try Hyatt, and this probably pushed her over the edge.
Sorry Hilton, we'll part friends. But I'm not sure that this was the best business decision.

i would suggest she give it one more try by writing to hhonors@hiltonres.com because even i received a negative response from hilton after my first call....then i was given this email from a fellow flyertalker & i received a positive response within a day of writing to them....
Drinks are on me! They emailed her back that they would just extend her Diamond status a year. I'm guessing that it had to do with the fact that a lot of her stays were in NYC and she spent a fair amount of money.

I had gotten the email saying i may not be on track to maintain Diamond status, but no offer for a fast track. I have 11 stays thus far, and about 10 more planned. I sent an email to hhonors@hiltonres.com requesting a fast track, and here is an excerpt of their reply (received in only 3 hours!), basically "No, wait till March".
The bolding is theirs, not mine.
"Upon review of your account, I found the Diamond VIP tier status is good through March 31, 2010. At this time we cannot extend a Fast Track to Diamond VIP tier status. In March all accounts are reviewed for extensions and possible Fast Track offers. Please contact us in March 2010 so that we may review your account at that time for extension consideration.
As an organization, we are very sensitive to the concerns of our members and certainly take into consideration the events that may have contributed to minimal travel that, ultimately, results in a downgrade in tier status in the Hilton HHonors Program. Moreover, we apologize that we are unable to honor your request to extend to you the Diamond VIP tier status at this time.
We hope that you can understand our position as it is our goal and commitment to provide the ultimate in customer service and strive to offer benefits that help earn your loyalty to the Hilton Family Brand of Hotels.
Thank you for your loyalty to Hilton and the Hilton Family Brand of Hotels. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hilton in the near future."

I am getting rather disheartened about trying to renew my Gold status in light of the Hilton Honors pts devaluation. I was not offered a fast track to Gold in my e-mail from Sept 5. Just reminded that I needed to have 16 stays to requalify. I was at 10 at that point and am doing my 11th stay tonight.
I decided to call HHonors and see if I could get a fast track since at least one gold member was offered it.
Got the mail of fast track to remain gold, at 9 ytd right now, just need 4 more to keep my gold til next year, which save me 3 stays.
I was told that the fast track was only offered to Hilton Amex or Visa card holders. Can anyone confirm if they were offered a fast track and are not holders of either of these cards. Since I live in Cda, I am really not entitled to apply for these cards.
Anyhow, they gave me 5000 pts as a consolation prize, but I would much rather have shortened my nights required to 14 instead of 16. I will try e-mailing HHonors now as many have suggested, but I doubt that I get a different result.

I was offered the fasttrack back to Diamond and am neither an AMEX Hilton or VISA Hilton CC holder.
I will make Diamond by doing the stays, with the 25K 4 stay initiative a bonus.

Got the same junk e-mail from them. I was encouraged by the discussion here to write to them.
It's really stupid of them, since I've been Diamond for many years and we have a few very expensive stays with them every year, except for this one when we skipped a bit fair. I wrote to them in September, since some of those are before March and I won't give them the business just for Gold.
I guess the matched SPG Platinum will come in handy.

I want to add something interesting since I'm here. I called the DD recently and they mentioned my fast track at the end of call. I acted surprised and asked the details. They said I needed the 7 stays by 12/15. So I wrote an email to HH and asked they deadline and they confirmed it was 11/30, per the original email to me. I wonder if there is a softer deadline of 12/15? As it turns out, I'm 2 stays away from meeting the challenge now and am booking 2 awards in November to play it safe.

I hope this information is helpful.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can clarify for you.
Beth, I have the standard Hilton Honors Amex card, not the Surpass card...but when I tried to upgrade it on the Amex web site, I couldn't get it to accept the application. Can't be credit, can you pm me an email contact to figure out how to solve this problem? Or post an explanation if upgrades from the HHonors Amex aren't allowed for some reason?
Thanks,
ST

Wow! Just got a response from HHonors tonight, and they've agreed to give me a fast track to Gold if I have 4 stays over the next 90 days, and they will include the night I was at a Hilton when I sent in my request, so I only need 3 more (total of 14 stays instead of the usual 16). This suits me just fine as I signed up for the 4 stay/25K points promo, and will save me from having to do mattress runs out of my own pocket. ^
