I had an e mail this am. I am currently diamond but earned only 60 k base points so far this year. If I take out the credit card, I will keep diamond status till March 2011. This could be very handy as I would otherwise possibly miss out. Only prob is my honors card is in my married name and my finances are more in my maiden name, so here goes. Will let you know if this saves me doing a mattress run
in the same position points wise as yoou--- what bankk was the offer from ? would be interested know. Thanks

I'm in the US and had an email yesterday to maintain my silver status by getting an Hilton-American Express card. My current status doesn't expire until next March but I've only had three stays so far this year (have a few more before year's end scheduled so I didn't go for the card).

It doesn't actually say which bank but the card is a hilton hhonors platinum visa card . Also get 10000 bonus points with first purchase. I will get back to you if I can find which bank. The email came from hilton.
Many thanks for the update !!

It's with barclaycard.
I had an absolutely terrible experience with them in applying for this card (think: financial ombudsman bad) and despite the perks, told them what they could do with the new card. Some things are just not worth it!
Of course YMMV!
Got the mail too. Interesting that they make a point "you might be in danger of losing your Diamond status". I presume this is just based on not having renewed it yet. It's an interesting safety net but I have enough stays planned to re-qualify on the number of nights. I wonder whether we'll start to see the credit card get more useful in status terms in the future.

I certainly hope so. Let's have a look at what we get at the moment:
# Silver VIP status for as long as you remain a Hilton HHonors Platinum Visa Card holder.
# Earn 3 Hilton HHonors bonus points for every eligible £1 you spend at participating Hilton Family hotels worldwide.
# Earn 2 Hilton HHonors bonus points for every eligible £1 spent with your Hilton HHonors Platinum Visa Card.
This doesn't compare at all well with a load of cards available in the U.S., which offer 6 points per US$ spent at Hilton or 3 points per US$ elsewhere. And Gold status for an annual spend of $20,000 as well as a bonus for booking online.
At the moment, the rate is £1 = $1.64 so when I spend £100 on the card, I get 200 points, while my US friend will get 492 points.

For normal (non-Hilton) spend Amex MR gives you the same rate which really doesn't make me want to rush out and get the Hilton Credit Card.
I got one of those cards -- but they charge a transaction fee when making non sterling transactions. Bought some points from hilton (in dollars) and even got charged a foreign transaction fee !!

Almost every UK credit card does this. It's not fair to single out the HH card for this. The issue is far more general.
Yes, I know there are a handful of cards that don't charge this fee. They make their profit some other way...

I agree. But it's handy to have a way to get your HH points on one of those occasions you're at a place that doesn't take (or says it doesn't take) American Express.
I got this promo at the start of the year and went for it. After a fight (the credit card hadn't passed on my details to Hhonors), I did get my Diamond for an additional year. However, there's nothing particularly special about it as a card
Just got a targetted offer get the card plus gold status. I have had 20 nights but only 9 stays this year. I also have 4 future bookings so far before the end of the year. I expect I would still make Gold, so not to sure about bothering to get the card. It might be better to see if I they make the offer again next year. It just shows how hard the recession seems to be hitting Hilton.
Obs
I had my "My Way Account Summary" e-mail last week which had a section headed "Maintain Your Diamond Status" and a link to the credit card site, and an offer closes date - but no details. Like others I've now had the e-mail which explains it!
Anyway, applied and accepted - there was no way I'd have made Diamond (Gold was going to be close) by year end so quite pleased.
