Not necessarily. The 2 pieces only applies if your eticket states "PC" as luggage allowance. If it specifies a weight, it will be 20 kg.

The pieces concept mostly applies to/from North America. Don't know that it applies for flights from Europe to Asia (unless part of an overall itinerary involving North America).

Cheers,

you're right, bu usually PC code is used for long flights so my guess is this will apply to the OP case as well.

to be 100% sure i'd give KLM a call ;)

Reverend,

Thanks so much for the information:)

As per anan's reply, please call KLM. In my trips to Asia, I was subject to the 20 kg limit ... so better not be surprised.

Do you already have your ticket? If so, what does it say?

Just checked the AirFrance site, which has a little gadget to let you calculate what you are entitled to. For a GVA-HKG trip, they show a 20 kg allowance.

Hi reverend,

I wouldn't call 20 kgs sad. Those are the rules we live with. If you need more, you can pay more.

On the other hand, whether I go on a 1 week trip or a 4 week trip, I end up with the same amount of luggage, and do laundry as required. Yes, it means washing my socks and underwear in the sink of the hotel, but that's travel for you.

Cheers,

I am bringing only two white cassocks and pants and underware. I am a Religious and going to help the poor. Suitcases will be filled with medicine and things to help the poor.

You may want to give KLM a call, explain the situation and kindly ask if they can't sponsor an extra allowance for the relief supplies. My brother flies all kinds of airlines when a disaster strikes somewhere around the globe. He told me that the weight for the emergency response team's baggage and supplies is usually not an issue with the airlines. I think it may be worth a try to ask in your case. I've never flown KLM so far, but I've heard they are otherwise very strict with the baggage allowance. Good luck.

Hi GF,

You do know, don't you, that most (decent) hotels have a laundry service? ;) I gave up using the sink when I made the transition from young, radical budget traveller to mature (but cranky) sophisticate! :p

If you provide me with your credit card details, I will be more than happy to charge it $5 per pair of socks ... ;)

Just call it the Dutch side in me .. but I spend enough in hotels that I'm not going to pay for my socks to be washed. I will happily use the washing machine if they have a laundry room though.

Cheers,

GF,

Well, if we're 'Going Dutch', I guess I'll pay $2.50 for one sock, you pay for the other! Other items may prove more difficult to split.
