Korean Air Skypass - 744 upper deck for economy passengers

I finally had booked myself into an upper deck C seat on a 744. Alas, I arrived at MNL last night to start my journey (MNL-ICN-ORD-CVG-YYZ) and I have been reassigned to the main deck. After a bit of discussion at the lounge here in ICN ("Sir, the upper deck does not exist") I finally showed them a picture of the seat map. They then showed me their screens. The upper deck is designated as economy seating for this flight.

I'm rather miffed as I really did want that experience, though I guess it is a great upgrade for those 24 lucky passengers.

Any idea on how frequently this occurs?

Was it for ICN-ORD? It's very frequently happening these days - upper deck Y seatings for ICN-ORD-ICN. Usually over-booking, but not many premium passengers. I've been told from many people about upper deck Y seatings on this route. But don't worry that KE might not make money on this route: they can get high yield even with full of Y class passengers.

According to seatguru, the only 747 KE has with economy on the upper deck is the 747-400 Combi, which I don't think KE is flying ORD-ICN.

What they do is assigning Prestige seats for Economy passengers, but they do get Economy service AFAIK.

Correct. It was Y service but C seats.
