I'll be coming from Europe to visit Cancun and the Yucatan and I don't have much US Currency. It's been many years since I was last there. Is it OK to just get pesos from an ATM machine? Do bars and local markets accept Euros?

We use US and pesos. I have never seen them accept Euros at our resort. It is okay to get pesos from ATM, but I think there is a special code or something you get from your bank to use the ATM in Mexico.

Go to an ATM and pay in pesos. Use dollars and you will end up paying more, plus you are paying to exchange to dollars from euros. Since you are well-travelled you will know that it's often wise to alert your bank that you will be using your card overseas. This morning I was unable to make a withdrawal using my UK debit card. I rang my bank and they said a stop had been put on it. This had never happened before in more than 5 years of living in Mexico! So be warned. It's also wise to have more than one card, just in case something like this happens.

Use your ATM card and get pesos. The rate is great right now. Using your credit card is fine at hotels, but you'll get charged extra with merchants. Cash rules. Call first and carry a spare credit card in case. Here's why (http://luxurylatinamerica.com/blog/2009/08/02/always-carry-a-spare-credit-card-when-traveling/).
