Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Any discount/programs for weekly airline users?
Hi,
I am moving (for work) to Washington DC from Dallas TX for 3-5 months, and planning to visit my family (in Dallas TX) every weekend (depart WAS on Friday evenings and fly back from Dallas on Sunday evening).
Does anyone know about some special deals/discounts (or airline programs) for regular/heavy flight users, that I am sure I would turn into?
I did come to know about unlimited pass ($600 for a month) from JetBlue, but they don't have any service to Dallas.
Regards
Loreto

The JetBlue pass was only for September.
American Airlines sells an AAirpass that is basically a pre-paid travel card. You buy blocks of miles and they are deducted from your account when you travel. It's quite expensive (you purchase large blocks of miles) but comes with elite status and other benefits. You can learn more here:

I read somewhere the AAirPass costs approx. 50 cents per mile, and is cheaper than the normal ticket prices, only if the distance to be covered is relatively smaller.
For WAS to DFW, I guess its approx 1100 miles and the ticket will be close to double the price using AAirpass, in that case.
Can someone suggest any other offerings?

What have you looked at so far? What's a reasonable price for you? Have you looked at Southwest from BWI-DAL? How far in advance are you willing to buy tickets? Is earning elite status in an airline's frequent flyer program (and the benefits that come with that status) important to you?

I am ready to book tickets upto 1.5 to 2 months in advance. Only problem is that Sunday evening flights are real expensive with any airline. The standard best flight that I could find for friday night (IAD to DFW) and sunday night return (DFW to IAD) for aprox $289, if booked in advance.
Any other combinations with other airlines (southwest included) is $300-350+.
As regards to the elite status, I am looking for tangible benefits in terms of cheaper tickets or free flights using FFP points, rather than other benefits involved with elite status.
I know of CITI aadvantage credit card that adds 25000 miles to AA FFP, if I spend 750+ within 4 months. I will cover that amount within 3 weeks, so I have applied for it and got approved. Not sure, if they have some other hidden "between the lines" clause in there.

Advantages of sticking with one airline and earning elite status include higher mileage earning rates (faster free tickets), better seat selection, generally better service during irrops, and, depending on the airline, opportunities to upgrade to first class. These may or may be important to you. If price is your most important criteria, you'll probably spread your flying around among several airlines and not earn status on any. There are accelerated ways to earn status through challenges. See the sticky at the top of the AA forum for information on fast-track ways to earn Gold or Platinum status on American. DFW is the home of American Airlines, you should at least take a close look at the elite benefits they offer.
