Headed to the airport in MNL now about to embark on MNL-ICN-ORD. If I buy DF booze in MNL will I lose it at the ICN screening? I recall the guy in front of me on the outbound having to surrender his small soda (he actually chugged it rather than give it up) but I don't know if DF liquor (assuming in a sealed bag like in Europe) would be permitted.

Anyone know definitively??

To come full circle on this, with the booze in the special STPB I was able to pass through ICN transit security with nary a second glance.

Clearing security at ICN was a breeze. And then I tried to actually board a US-bound flight. They had a full cadre of inspectors out checking all bags. The good news is that the security folks and the agent worked together to check my booze from the gate in a random box they found. I wonder if it will arrive at ORD in one piece.

The duty free shop in ICN wouldn't sell me any liquids when I showed them my US bound boarding pass. They also were searching all carry on bags when you boarded the plane for any liquids you may have procured at the airport.

Flew out of ICN on a U.S. bound flight a few hours ago, and tried to buy a bottle of gel at duty free. The staff working there told me that anything 100mL or less is okay. They did a secondary inspection at the gate BTW.

Did you have less than 1 hour until flight departure time?
Purchases of liquids in quantities larger than 100mL are blocked within one hour of departure as pickup/delivery of products from DF to gate stop thirty minutes before boarding begins(usually D-30 mins).
That's probably the only reason they wouldn't sell you the liquids. Liquid bottles < 100mL are allowed only because those can be carried on by the individual passenger in a clear ziplock bag.

I just went through this as I could not purchase cosmetics > 100mL with 55 mins until departure, but I was allowed to carry on a product that was less than 100mL.
