Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - SAA Premium Class Power...I'm a little confused.

Hi Guys,

I am flying SAA Premium Class from IAD to JNB on the 18th of September and need to use my laptop through out the flight and the info i came accross is this: "Each seat has its own power supply for laptops. The power is 115 v AC, so only a 2-pin European-type plug is required."

So excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that i just need to go to the store and get an adaptor that converts a U.S Plug into European 2 pin? Is it that simple? If yes, any ideas on where i can find the adaptor? Im new to the U.S and just want to make things a little easier for myself :p

Hi there,

Presuming that you're running a laptop with a US 3-prong plug, all you should need to do is get an adapter (vs. a converter - your laptop power cord should manage any conversion issues).

Check out travelproducts.com (http://travelproducts.com/store/electric.htm) and Magellan's (http://www.magellans.com/store/Adaptor_Plugs___Converters?Args=&display=view_all&page_number=all).

With the travelproducts, scroll down toward the bottom to see "Plug Adapter (Grounded)" - you may want to call and verify that it's exactly what you'll need. With Magellan's, it looks like their adapter is for 2-prong US electronics, in which case it may not be right for you. An LH FA gave me (yes, gave, as in told me to keep it) a 3-pronger years ago, and I still use it. They're inexpensive and come in quite handy. Radio Shack has some, too.

If you're going to SA, be prepared for a whole new world of prongs and adapters, too.

I have flown the SAA A340-300/600 between JFK/IAD and JNB several times in Pemium Business Class and a U.S. 3-prong plug works fine. You will not need an adapter. My only issue with the plug is that it is a little difficult to access. It is located in in the back of the armrest console.
