Alitalia MilleMiglia - Cheapest MIL-LON one-way $1261.20 for entire week of 10/5?

I knew something was up when I tried Kayak for MIL (any airport)-LON (any airport) and it showed no AZ itineraries. When checking the AZ website, the lowest fare for ANY flight that entire week is Business Freedom USD$1261.20.
BA is showing $74 LIN-LHR and LH is showing $84 MXP-LHR.
Is this a glitch or does the AZ revenue department have their heads up their arses?

You would be correct in saying that the AZ revenue department has their heads up their arses. Not much that AZ does says "rational" and "logical".

AZ "don't offer" o/w flights to LHR
Book a return and you'll see some very very cheap fares though - they are becoming agressive again (although on most no mm :td:)

Does AZ see themselves as "above" such commoner practices as one-way travel? I'd hate to order white wine with fish while having dinner with this lot!
Just to humor AZ, I checked itineraries using ghost return dates and the cheapest is US$175. That might be competitive for those who actually want a return schedule (LH is actually showing $142 on the sample itineraries), but its a complete revenue loss for AZ while they keep their dignity and ignore us thousands of proletariats who might need to get from point A to point B and nothing more.

Agree 100% Culrain
not having o/w fares dosn't make sense - even more so because on some routes you can purchase o/w (all domestic and certian european, but not LHR)
Alitalia do go as low as 115€ rtn at the moment (SLIGHTLY cheaper) and for me leaving from LIN (AZ) instead of MXP (LH) is worth at LEAST 50 euros
Noticed they've changed the planes - more MD80's and less airbuses again:mad:

Not really. It's even more misterious, since they do offer cheap one-way fares LON-MIL but not MIL-LON. It has been like this for at least two years I think.
I think there must be some kind of logic... (or am I being too optimistic?)

Ok but this really doesn't make sense
I have just found a flight - make that hundreds of rtn flights (literally) at 115 - 116€ - LIN>LHR
Great value
On Alitalia.it page they advertise "offerte speciali" with LHR at 197€
Mmm - maybe I've missed something...
infact these are the fares i was able to find using matrix

Many European airlines don't offer cheap o/w fares. It was only when the low-cost carriers started to become significant players that the legacy carriers started to follow their model of pricing returns as two singles. BA was one of the first to do this, and all the short haul flights within Europe (AFAIK) follow this model.
BA shorthauls to North Africa don't, for example; there, you still need to stay over Saturday night to get cheaper fares. Outside the EU I suspect it's often a question of old restrictive bilateral treaties.
AF doesn't offer cheap o/w fares, so for example on CDG-FCO you need to buy a return and throw away the return half.
I suspect AZ is trying to compromise: cheap o/w LON-MIL because BA does, but no cheap MIL-LON because they don't offer cheap o/w ex-Italy :confused::confused:
