Just got this in my email today:
AVIS TRIPLE MILES
Rent a car with Avis this fall, and you can pick up triple Flying Club miles while you drive. So as the road stretches out before you, so will your budget.
There are Avis rental stations in almost every major city in the world and over 120 in the UK alone. And with a fleet of over 40 models and an average car age of under six months, there's a great choice of vehicle - whatever the size, and whatever the occasion.
You'll also benefit from a complimentary 24 hour roadside assistance service anywhere in the UK, the USA and most countries throughout the world, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride while you watch your miles add up.
How to book
Visit Avis at www.avis.co.uk/virginflyingclub and quote the Avis AWD number on the back of your Flying Club membership card, and your Flying Club membership number.
Term and conditions
This offer is available between September 1 and December 13, 2009.
I wanted to know if anyone else received this offer. If I read this correctly, it looks like you could earn 3,000 miles per rental with no minimum number of days (I typically have one day rentals with Avis).
If anyone has additional information confirming this, I would appreciate it. Many thanks. :D

I got the same offer. The problem with it, at least for U.S. residents, is that the booking link provided specifies that the renter's country of residence is the U.K., and there is no option to change the country of residence to the U.S. You end up with a rate quoted in GBP, with LDW and SLI included. My guess is that an Avis location in the U.S. would not honor such a rate when you present a U.S. driver license.
I can't tell whether the triple miles would automatically be awarded by just booking on the U.S. Avis site, and entering the Flying Club AWD. I've sent an Email to Virgin Atlantic pointing out this problem, and asking how a U.S. resident can take advantage of the triple miles offer.
And yes, if you can book the offer here in the U.S., you should be able to earn 3,000 miles on even a one-day Avis rental.

I have also sent an email to Virgin asking for clarification as well. Once I receive a response, I will keep post another reply so everybody can benefit.
In looking at the offer further, the fact that Virgin Atlantic knows that I am a US resident should give us a case with them and Avis that we deserve the miles as promised in their offer.

Following are the AWDs that Avis uses.
K319800>General Passengers
Z333300>Flying Club Red
N645801>Flying Club Silver
W645600>Flying Club Gold
W115701>Flying Club Redemption
You are able to book on Avis.com (US) with these AWDs sans mandatory insurances. I have an existing reservation (different AWD) for this weekend that I am crediting to VS. I am curious to see whether it posts as triple or regular miles.

I just also booked a weekly rental using my VS Silver AWD on the US site. Again, I'm curious to see what happens and will do my best to report my results.
it actually worked out cheaper through the uk/virgin site for a 3 day rental in denver for me next week
and changed one in raliegh NC for next week as well. Could be an all avis trip at this rate - and nearly a flight to ny in miles - better seat as well

Are you a U.K. resident?

You don't have to be. I am "resident" in several countries and just choose the best Avis rate depending on which country is cheapest. In 200+ rentals never once have had a problem. I regularly use the Avis UK or IE site to make a reservation and use my US D.L. when I pick up the car.
Never pay more than $45 / day in the US this way, and always includes full coverage.

Have you ever had to make a claim against the LDW or SLI? Would Avis be able to deny such a claim if the renter were clearly not a U.K. resident?

Once - was involved in a minor accident that damaged the side of the car. Not an issue at all, never heard another word from Avis. I had my US address in the reservation, along with my US D.L. number.
I can legitimately claim that i am resident in 3 different countries where I have bank accounts, an address that bills are sent to, etc. so it is not an issue from that perspective.

I re-booked one rental on the UK site for a good price ~ 100 GBP. Unfortunately, the US site is showing my rate @ ~ $200 + $100 taxes = over $300. Weird - I have screen prints from the UK booking process just in case.
Quick point of information - this offer is now posted to the US VS site, but still has the UK booking link.
I am a UK resident, but like yourself I am a resident of where ever I need to be. I have a seperate policy to cover my excesses on hire cars, a good deal given the number I hire a year. www.insurance4carhire.com for those that care
jon
and now a 1 day rental in San Antonio. I should be able to squeeze in at least two more rentals on this trip, and so far no more than 1gbp or usd difference from being the cheapest (like thrifty et al).
I doubled my gift to NSPCC this month to aswage the guilt

Maybe this is a good deal for some, but it actually costs me more, albeit only 9 cents just to rent thru the US site for 1K miles 3X than go thru this site paying the mandatory insurance for the 3K miles- and why should I pay for something that I don't need? Not as generous offer as the Hertz one last year- and with that one I had enough to achieve President's Circle. No elite bonus from Avis when u choose to accrue miles.

So far, no one has said that you only get 1,000 miles, rather than 3,000 miles, if you book via the U.S. website. It seems to be an open question at the moment. I am hoping that someone will shortly be able to confirm whether the triple miles are being awarded with a booking on Avis' U.S. website.

My first September rental from the US site which did NOT use the proper AWD just hit my account with only 1,000 miles credited.

The Avis U.K. website that is linked from the Virgin offer now permits residents of countries other than the U.K. to indicate their residency, so I guess that the U.K. site can now be used by U.S. residents. But I just did a test booking of a two-day rental, and the rate quoted on the U.K. site is much higher than the rate quoted on the U.S. site, even though the rate on the U.K. site no longer includes LDW or SLI.
I still do not know whether a rental booked on the U.S. site using the Flying Club AWD will yield the triple miles.

I booked via the UK site for US rental following all procedures and it posted as only 1K miles.:( That was a waste of $. So if that's the case, I'll just go via the US site and if I get the 3K fine; nontheless I can snare a rental for around $20.
