Midwest Airlines Midwest Miles - Republic points Midwest in a new direction

The Kansas City Star had a good article in yesterday's paper on the Republic purchase of Midwest and what it means for MCI in general.

Among the highlights:

1) Midwest will be moving from its current location in the "A" terminal to the "C" terminal where Frontier utilizes an international gate for its Mexico flights.

2) Bedford says that “It’s certainly possible that we could see new markets open up for Midwest in Kansas City with a route map that looks similar to what it was before.” There hasn't been much said about MCI so its good that some routes restored.

3) Mark VanLoh, Kansas City aviation director, said he will tout the benefits of KCI service over Milwaukee, Midwest’s headquarters, when he meets with Republic officials. Good luck with that, Mark!

Funny how, near the end of the article, they make it seem like Kansas City doesn't get weather.

Yeah, right ;)

MCI has some of the most unpredictable weather, you have ice/snow in winter and incredible thunderstorms that bring tornadoes. Hail as big as softball, every year once or twice at MCI, tornado's are possible or have been spotted and everyone in the terminals and passengers on the planes are pulled off and sent to the underground tunnels to parking lots. The only advantage of KC over Milwaukee I can see is larger population base, plenty of terminal space and more central location. The terminals are very nice since the remodeling and security thru the gates are a non issue really.

I think you are exagerrating just a little bit to make your point. Not knowing whether you're claiming that tornadoes affect MCI once or twice per year or softball-sized hail, but I would be surprised if either of those events affect the immediate area around the airport more than once every 5 to 10 years, maybe longer.

I've lived in the Kansas City area for over 40 years and seen one tornado and have never experienced baseball-sized hail, let alone softball-sized hail.
