Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles - Assisted Transfer for Medical Reasons

I have just recently started reading this forum, and I wish I would have found it much sooner. Normally, I would read much longer prior to posting, but I wanted to share something and seek advice on a recent complaint I made via the thy.com automated system.

Until recently I have had great experiences with Turkish Airlines, and even told friends how fantastic the airline is. However, recently that ended.

Friday August 15, 2009 I had a hernia like surgery and was required to fly back to Turkey on August 16, 2009. The surgery made it difficult to sit for long periods, walk, or get up from a seat. Knowing the issues, while in Germany I requested assistance at the THY counter, and in Germany I was given great assistance. However, that changed when the German assistance ended and the Turkish began. Almost as soon as I got on flight TK1588 I was treated like I was trying to make their day difficult. They offered no assistance, and limited explanations on why the flight was delayed an hour.

Once I arrived in Istanbul, they provided very little assistance with a medical transfer, and as a result I was left on a sidewalk. The standing was fine, but then a female THY employee told me I had to wait inside. When I tried to explain I was waiting on the medical transfer she just kept saying go inside. I went inside to find no desk, no THY representative, and no assistance of any kind.

I could not believe it I had to walk from the Istanbul international terminal to the domestic terminal. Fortunately, I was still on some very strong medication.

I am still disgusted at the way I was treated by Turkish Airlines.

I am sorry to hear that you had to experience that! Unfortunately, as famous as it is for its hospitality, Turkey still needs ages when it comes to the treatment of the disabled, sick, elderly, etc.

Also, I agree with you that as Turkish Airlines has been growing massively, the quality has dropped quite a bit. I am guessing they are having a hard time choosing between growth vs. quality.

Let us know if they respond to your complaint, because I have often read that they ignore some complaints. Good luck!
