I am a 1K with UA and I am planning to fly from LAX to NGO to visit my girlfriend during Christmas. Since OZ airfare is much more attractive than that of UA, I am seriously considering flying OZ at the end of this year.

I do have one question regarding operational upgrade. With my status as a UA 1K, I am "almost" guaranteed to be upgraded on UA since their TPAC flights are always oversold around the holiday season (75% success in the past 2 years). If I decide to fly OZ, how often do they offer op up on their TPAC flights (LAX-ICN) during the holiday season? Or should I ask, how often do they oversell their Y during holiday season? Would there be any priority given to *G?

Any advice is appreciated.

As UA does, OZ almost do operational upgrade to OZ members, especially Platinum and Diamond Plus.. I think it's really rare to upgrade to non-OZ *G members.. :)

OZ fare may be a lot more attractive than UA, but pay attention to what fare is it, some may earn 70% or 80% of actual miles.

Also, when it is during holiday season, some people are desperate to get home, there are actually many people will pay to fly C on OZ unlike UA. I had once seen F was full because of many people got op up from C, and I witnessed those are the people that are holding OZ diamond, diamond + card at the gate.

With the very easy Diamond (*G) requirements with Asiana Club, there's lots of Koreans now with that card and they'll very likely get the op-ups before you do. I'd say your chances are quite slim.

Just out of curiosity, would OZ Golds (*S) have priority over non-OZ *Gs?
