Midwest - Change terminals at STL in 45 minutes?

For lack of a reasonable fare ATL-MCI on Labor Day, I will be traveling ATL-STL on Delta then STL-MCI on Southwest. Would it be sane to book a connection scheduled 55 minutes apart?

Is there an airside connection from terminal A to terminal E? The STL website seems to treat the main and east terminals as two separate buildings but from a map they seem to be physically connected.

If not, what would get me across terminals reliably quickly? It looks like my choices are the terminal shuttle, metrolink or walking.

From A to the East terminal there is no airside connector. A concourse is totally isolated from the other terminals. But I believe that 55 minutes is doable if your Delta flight is ontime.

Walking will be your best bet. I believe the D concourse is still open to walk down to the E gates. If that is the case you can clear security at either B or C concourse security and walk inside from there.

I would recommend that after leaving A concourse as you go by the B concourse security on the lower level if the line isn't too long there then just clear there.

Metrolink is not the best option as you might have to wait for the train up to 10-15 minutes.

The D concourse is NOT open to connect from the main terminal to the East Terminal.

You would have to take the terminal shuttle bus or pay for a MetroLink ticket as the free-ride zone within the airport stops has been eliminated.

Ouch! Talk about being out of touch... LOL...

Both of the above policies make not much sense if the airport is trying to encourage connections but who am I to judge a nonsensical city entity...

Does anyone know the frequency of the terminal shuttle in the mid-afternoon?

Well, the airport free-ride zone elimination is due to the budget issues @ Metro and nothing to do with the airport.

The D terminal shutdown is due to the fact that 90% of the concourse is unused and the energy/janitorial services cutbacks will save over $1 million a year.

I suspect the airport could fund the "cost" of this much more cheaply than a 20 hour a day, 365 day per year intra terminal shuttle.

I won't begin to wonder how you know such things but they also built a redundant runway that nobody uses. How that place could be considered in posession of any sense whatsover I don't know.

Sorry for going OT but maybe the airport has the bus schedule posted on their website.
