On 07SEP09 only, XL Airways is offering PARNYC for €1 (€97 all-in). Not sure this will be of much use to anyone, but thought I'd throw it out there...

You shall henceforth be known as ExtrAAordinaire the Magnificent. Not gonna lie... I just booked this puppy on expedia.fr for €97.34 all-in. Excited to come back home. This'll be a nice story to tell the grandchildren one day. Anyone have a possible explanation for this? Perhaps a VERY empty flight? Maybe even a recently introduced flight? Also, I'm interested in any other insight about XL if applicable (anyone flown 'em over the pond?). This would be the 2nd LCC I've taken over the pond. The last one way Condor Air from Frankfurt to Orlando. Those were good times. On another note, anyone happen to be, err, driving through/from Germany or even the Netherlands to France on or before the 7th? ;) Thanks a bunch ExtrAAordinaire! Safe travels to you all. crnk Aug 29, 09, 12:30 am I just booked this puppy on expedia.fr for €97.34 all-in. Excited to come back home. This'll be a nice story to tell the grandchildren one day. Just curious--is this OW or RT? Not to knock the OW, but there have been other EQM and RDM earning fares from the majors in the last few years--the CO CGN deal was $190-ish++ for $270ai rt. There hasn't been much that good since, but just wanted to note it as a benchmark. gosha83 Aug 29, 09, 1:11 am Just curious--is this OW or RT? There hasn't been much that good since, but just wanted to note it as a benchmark. OP's title says "OW" so I'm assuming one way. The CGN fare, along with similar RT fares to Italy on Air France, and a $275 fare earlier this year to BCN on IB have def. set some tough benchmarks! magmax Aug 29, 09, 5:17 am XL Airlines seems to be a german charter airline with a short but shaken history. It normally does charter flights within Europe and the mediterrenean for tour operators. So I guess they are doing a charter flight between par and nyc and try to fill up the plane with that fares. AJO Aug 29, 09, 6:08 am How much mileage does one earn with this? (and/or why is this in "mileage run deals"?) Yarhead Aug 29, 09, 7:21 am Computer induced duplicate- sorry Yarhead Aug 29, 09, 7:22 am Just curious--is this OW or RT? There hasn't been much that good since, but just wanted to note it as a benchmark. Having booked this, I am confirming that it is indeed a one way. Certainly the EQM/RDM earning fares (a las $270AI R/T from CO or the $270AI R/T TXL/FRA-BOS last week from DL) in recent years have been more enticing from the mileage earning/even deal getting standpoint. On a separate note, for those of us seeking *one ways* from Europe to the USA on the cheap and even *last minute*, this one certainly has made it happen. The only thing I recall that somewhat rivaled this sort of fare was the 2 day AB sale a few months back whereby one could travel from Dusseldorf to as far as LAX for only $210 or so O/W. As far as mileage earning for this one (as others in this thread have alluded to as well), my understanding is that there really is none as XL is a LCC. pr0digy25 Aug 29, 09, 7:43 am As far as mileage earning for this one (as others in this thread have alluded to as well), my understanding is that there really is none as XL is a LCC. Makes it fit for Budget Travel Forum then... off it goes! mith Aug 29, 09, 8:01 am it is probably the last flight of the season. Thats why they are giving it away for so little... if you want a return, you have to wait till next june... crnk Aug 29, 09, 10:15 am On a separate note, for those of us seeking *one ways* from Europe to the USA on the cheap and even *last minute*, this one certainly has made it happen. I should have realized the value of the one way fact--I was trying to figure out its value as a trip and all of that. I know exactly what you're talking about though, I had a friend whose company bought him a RT ex-CDG as a throwaway so he could return to the states at the end of his internship because it was a lot cheaper than the OW. crnk Aug 29, 09, 10:17 am OP's title says "OW" so I'm assuming one way. The CGN fare, along with similar RT fares to Italy on Air France, and a $275 fare earlier this year to BCN on IB have def. set some tough benchmarks! They sure have sent some good benchmarks. I got confused with the OW because I saw some of the early posts about the $300 range and thought that sounded like a $1 fare with taxes and fuel surcharges for a RT Yarhead Sep 5, 09, 8:18 am Just for the record, on flights to the USA, XL allows 2 checked bags for free, each weighing up to 23 KG- kind of a useful point of information, one I did not expect. I believe the carry-on is still limited to 5 KG. Has anyone flown long-haul on XL before? I am interested in insight about pretty much anything XL related. Safe travels! |
