I wish Midwest would do one-way pricing for everything. Now, I'm not a Midwest regular and in fact I haven't flown them since the champagne and cookies days but I am planning an upcoming trip from WAS-OMA. The DCA-OMA times don't work for me at all so I'll be booked out on WN (probably) for $109 (and no bag fees). The Midwest flight back (the late departure back to DCA) is awesome for me, but a one-way is over $600! I played with it and can book the cheapest round-trip fare for $324 and ditch the 2nd half of the ticket, but probably won't bother and will just book the return leg on someone else.

Are the OMA-DCA runs (on a Tuesday) so full that they're going to fill the plane and are selling one-ways for such a lofty sum? The trip isn't for a couple of months so it's not a last minute booking.

Now if they took a page from WN, B6, etc...they'd at least have revenue from me on one segment, but not now.

Are there any third-party booking sites that let you book WN for the first leg and YX on the return?

This is sometimes possible, but WN complicates things. Do they still not show up on sites like Travelocity?

Southwest flights can only be booked with Southwest.

If you are willing to change planes in MKE (usually very easy),and sacrifice the nonstop, the one-way cost is cut in half, from the one-way nonstop fare. But, then you may as well book the roundtrip and have the nonstop.

If you have any plans to repeat this trip in the future, you can buy an OMA-DCA-OMA ticket, and guess the date of your next trip, for the DCA-OMA leg; that way, you may actually be able to use the other half of the roundtrip, and not have it go to waste.

You can also bring the roundtrip cost down with a multi-city routing, by booking YX OMA-DCA for the outbound and DCA-MKE for the return. This gives you a roundtrip cost of about $235.00 for nonstop flight, including taxes and fees. I am not saying to waste the DCA-MKE leg, however...

Just a few ideas you might want to think about.

Or if they take a page from Airtran or Frontier then each way would be the same whether you fly round trip or not. Might not be out of the question in the future.

Actually, some YX routes do price out the same, per leg, whether pricing as a one-way or roundtrip; unfortunately, this route is not one of them.

Yeah, but then it just seems like such a waste, especially with WN offering $109 each way for my dates. Of course I have to connect (either in STL or MDW) but its so much cheaper. It would be very hard to justify the price difference to those that pay my bills.

If I could get the one-way for $160 (half the applicable round-trip for my dates), I could easily justify the cost since it is non-stop.

But 235-600 its not going to happen.

I imagine I'm not the only one to run into this, it seems like a waste of ancillary revenue for seats that may otherwise be empty.

I just priced DCA-OMA for October travel (Sat-Tues) at $242.80, complete, flying Midwest roundtrip, nonstop. Are your dates flexible at all?
