A new ad has been running in the Milwaukee market, with the voice of Midwest, John Mahoney.

The message contains the following:

You may have heard a lot lately about Midwest Airlines
Midwest is now owned by Republic Airways, owner of a number of other airlines
Midwest will be offering new destinations and new amenities
They look forward to continuing more than 25 years of exceptional service and "the best care in the air"

It looks like their message continues to relate to destinations and amenities; they are laying the groundwork for announcements, which should be upcoming, shortly, regarding enhancements to service.

I heard it air 2x this morning on WTMJ - once shortly before 6:00 A.M. and then repeated about one hour later.

Perhaps they are waiting for F9 codeshare and FF partnership to commence next week, then hit us with the subsequent new developments; we certainly do not want to be overwhelmed by too much at one time. :)

Absolutely. When there is good news you sometimes let it drip out one drop at a time and create a string of positive news stories.

In general, when there are bad things happening, you want to let it all out and move on as quickly as possible. This is something that Midwest has done particularly poorly in the last year or so.

The ad just ran again at about 4:20 this afternoon on WTMJ Radio, about five minutes after host Jonathan Green bashed Midwest and complained that Midwest is now "Republic Lite".

Green also complained that he has 100,000 miles from using his Midwest credit card, but does not want to use them to fly YX; he liked it back when "they had 2x2 seating." He talked about signing up for a different credit card, one from which he could enjoy the benefits.

His station manager must not be too thrilled to have an on-air personality spew inaccurate, uncomplimentary info about a sponsor, shortly before the advertiser's spot airs. If I were Midwest's ad agency, I would not be too thrilled, either. They have a good ad campaign going, with some significant airings on WTMJ.

By the way, I listened more closely to the ad this afternoon, and mention was made of restoring many nonstops. The copy called Republic a "national leader in air transporation."

This guy has no clue.

A source also informed me that Marcus Theaters will start selling Midwest cookies this Friday. They will only be sold at a few theaters to start but more were to sell them in the future.

Seems like Republic is really trying to get the Midwest name back out there after a year or so absence.

I heard the ad on WKLH (96.5) during the morning drive time.

I agree, Green was wrong. Midwest Extra Lite operated by Republic is more correct. Midwest Airlines is nothing but a paint job. We may be from the Midwest, but were not stupid.

This morning I heard a different radio spot, which closed with the invitation to visit the YX site to learn about the new partnership with F9.

The message also stressed "hometown."

It looks like they are trying to strengthen/rebuild the brand.

Two additional spots aired today; the first talked about all of the daily direct flights from MKE, while the second message, directed at the business flyer, proclaimed that "As part of Republic Airways, Midwest Airlines will be working harder than ever to keep Milwaukee businesses move forward."

The messages are also now promoting the partnership with F9, letting people know that with the new codeshare agreement, travel will be possible to additional destinations, such as Durango and Bozeman.

For what it's worth, I've heard from several individuals that Midwest will be making a "major announcement" in the not too distant future. Additionally, I saw a mention on airliners.net that part of this announcement will have to do with bringing the fun back to flying.

Sometimes these "major announcements" either never occur or get so built-up that the actual news is disappointing. With that said, I have been hearing for several months now that Midwest will be making some enhancements to onboard services so maybe it's something along these lines.

Anyone else hearing anything?

And then the Republic morons do the quiet baggage fee increase even though fuel costs are down and it should be reduced or eliminated. Another "enhancement."

In Flight Entertainment on the E190's?

CSMEMO RAH009-032 RW

Overview
(What) Republic Airlines ERJ-190 Aircraft - 164HQ is scheduled to be out in our system shortly.
There are some differences that agents will need to be aware of. These differences are
listed in the Overview and will be further detailed in the Action Required area below.
1. 164HQ and possibly other future ERJ-190 deliveries have provisions installed for
the installation of an In Flight Entertainment system (IFE). Due to these provisions
the aft cargo compartment is smaller than those without the IFE installed. This
reduces the maximum weight limit in the aft cargo compartment as well as the
volume.
2. 164HQ and future ERJ 190s will be equipped with a wheelchair stowage area on
the aircraft bulkhead forward of Row 1 on the right hand side (aircraft right).
3. 164HQ and future ERJ 190s have seating capacity for 100 passengers but Seat 25
A will be blocked and cannot be used for passenger seat assignments. The total
maximum passenger capacity will be 99 passengers.

Background
(Why)

This memo is to inform station personnel of the differences they need to know when the
new aircraft services their station.
