JAL Mileage Bank - NRT-SIN seats and meals

I've never flown JL before and I'm flying NRT-SIN r/t as an AA codeshare (part of a MR). I'm flying on JL flights 711 and 712 (777's) in Y.
Seatguru has not been very helpful for choosing seats. I prefer window option and I've been put in 29A/24A.
It is a pretty long flight (almost 7 hrs each way, scheduled times), so I'm curious about the meal options. JL's website hasn't been very helpful. What is normally served and can I request an alternative?
Thanks for your help.
P.S. I have about a 4.5 hr layover in NRT - can I do something worthwhile in that amount of time (like go into town)?
P.P.S. This forum really should have a sticky to help us JAL n00bs. :D

I think there information on JAL is not so great...

more info here on the food: http://www.jal.co.jp/inter/city_info/asia/sin/inflight/
for the Japanese options in August:
bonito and chicken katsu (deep fried chicken)
fish over rice
grilled yakiudon
for western options:
italian hamburger
colorful vegetables and bologniouse doria
seafood in a lemon paprika sauce
both include
fresh salad with yuzu dressing
roll with butter
coffee, oolong, or green tea
P.S. I have about a 4.5 hr layover in NRT - can I do something worthwhile in that amount of time (like go into town)?
depends on what you mean by "town". I think you could go into the town of Narita. It would actually be cutting close to try to go to Tokyo. Also I'm not sure what the rules are related to visa if you are connecting on to somewhere else the same day (I think they also vary by nationality).

for the return flight, SIN -> NRT, the food is different:
beef stew with fresh tomato sauce
or
teriyaki udon
mushroom salad
dessert
soumen (white noodles eaten cold)
roll, butter
coffee, oolong, green tea
(that's assuming you'r flying in august)...
they don't seem to have september up yet.

We need a moderator and someone who's willing to write up the sticky first :p And with the sticky, there will be zero people asking questions and this forum will be dead LOL

Thanks for that information - I'm actually travelling in Sept, though. Do the choices really change a lot from month to month?
As for what I meant by "town", I really just meant anything that would give me some feel for Japan. I realize going to Tokyo would be quite ambitious in that time, so if going into Narita can be worthwhile, I would be interested. I'm not sure what's on the "must do" list for a 4 hour stay in Japan.
I think I'm going to call JAL and see if they have any more info about meals.

They do change a lot from month to month in Y. They are in the process of uploading the Sept menu. They will be up soon (probably some time this week).
If you want special meals, you can order them in advance. More info here (http://www.jal.co.jp/en/inflight/s_meal/).
Enjoy your flights :)

What dates are your flight? JAL uses a mix of long and short haul configuration on this route. I am seeing W32 and W51 (http://www.jal.co.jp/aircraft/conf/777er.html). There are dates which they use row 7-9 (regional business class seats) in economy cabin and dates which they use premium economy cabin as Y seats.

Other than the exit row, does anyone have suggestions (long legs) on Y seats for this routing? Oct 2, 15, 21

Which flights are you on? And which directions you are flying on those dates...The two daily NRT-SIN flights uses 2 different aircrafts. If you are on one of the 773 flights, try getting row 16-21. Those are premium economy seats...For the 777 flights, I would say bulkhead aisle but I don't think you can pre-select those without status (just like the exit row)

Yes you can. In fact, I'm sitting in the SATS lounge now. I prefer this to the three choices you have - SATS, QF/BA, or CX. I've heard the showers are better at QF so you might check that out.
Seat suggestion - ask in the JL lounge in NRT about getting bulkhead or exit row for both segments. I've found them much more helpful then the staff in SIN where you have to use the generic transfer desk or counter check-in.
It's your status, not your AC that gets you in.

Tkelvin69,
Thanks for the info, I am sitting in the SATS lounge and just finished my breakfast. I had a great 32 hours in SIN, but I am tired, only slept for 5 of them. When my miles post later this week I will be EXP with AA so maybe next year when I make this run I can at least get to NRT in a J seat.
