Somewhat odd question just out of curiosity: does anyone know how the computer tells the agent to op-up you?
Was booked in Y TPE-HKG as a SL. At check-in, the agent said they had upgraded me, I assumed because they were oversold. But then she asked if "anything had happened" on a certain date, meaning if I'd had some problem flying on cx. I told her I hadn't been traveling that day. She showed me the notation in my record. Can't remember it exactly but was something like "pls upgd" and some numbers she said were the date she'd asked me about.
She called someone, chatted for a bit, apologized and handed me a Y boarding pass after all. I figured there'd just been a computer goof and they'd meant to compensate someone else with an upgrade. I wasn't bothered since I got the Y seat I'd selected online (which is, after all, what I paid for) and had lounge access anyway. But to add to the mystery, I got an op-up after all. They handed me the new boarding pass when I boarded.
Not a complaint about anything. I'm just curious, was that notation the check-in agent saw actually a signal to op-up? How do they know?
