I got a few questions and see if frequent flyers here could answer. I normally fly economy since employer will not pay for business class tickets. I do redeem for business or use the miles for upgrading tickets to busienss. I am unable to find the ticket class on Asiana's website during booking so I am posting my questions here.
If I book the cheapest ticket on Asiana's USA website, it would normally be class V or W, correct? If so, then it will only earn 70% status miles with Asiana.
How can anyone be able to get a G or T class economy ticket? They earn 80% status miles according to website. If I call the Diamond line for reservations, will they be able to book a G or T class ticket?
Finally, the economy "J" class ticket gives 100% status miles. Are those the expensive ones that are 100% refundable?
Anyone has any insights on how to get economy tickets with Asiana that gives a higher yeild (80% or 100% status miles) without buying the high priced 100% refundable ticket?
Thanks everyone

Actually, quite a few here have booked cheap tickets from the US which gave ZERO miles.
Maybe it is worthwhile to invest into a KVS and Expertflyer subscription. There you can actually search for all public fares. So you can see exactly which booking classes cost how much etc. And with this information you can go to a travel agent or to Asiana and book a ticket.

Not all booking classes are for all routes. V/W are only for US to non-Korea routes, so do not exist on US-Korea route. G is usually for group tour only. Some of them are not allowed to be attached to US domestic sector (although travel agencies do this secretly for us.) SFO-ICN usually has more classes purchase-able due to higher competition. So depending on your origin and destination, one-way or round trip, duration of your travel, and season, you'll have different sets of available classes, but not from your elite status at all. TA may be helpful, but still you'll have very limited choices in terms of booking class.

G class is for group tour ticket.. So, not eligible for individual ticket..

My international gateway is Vancouver (YVR). However, I can connect to Seattle, Los Angeles, or San Francisco as gateway in order to fly Asiana (or ANA). I travel mostly to Asia.
When I use the expert flyer tool, eg on Dec 18, 2009 and return Jan 8, it shows tickets from LAX to HKG is a class type V - which yeilds 70% status miles.
It doesn't show any other economy fares offered by Asiana (other than the fully refundable one with the $4000 price tag). The ticket bucket seems to show a number of fares...
Any tips anyone could give to earn higher than 70% status miles on economy tickets? Anyone know any travel agent that can book me into the "Tour type" fare at 80% status mile earn?

80% is much rare than 70% tickets. Searching on ITA website, I can see V class 1221 USD and K class (100%) 1444 USD. Websites usually show cheapest one, V class in this case. You should call travel agencies and they will help you. Call any asian travel agency.

Hi gang,
I checked Expert Flyer again to come up with a list of economy classes Asiana has. They are the following:
B, BN
E
H, HN
K, KN,
L, M, N,Q,R,T
C, W, Y, YN
where
"V" or "W" class ticket earns 70% according to Asiana's website. What about the others?
Anyone can shed some light? After this conclude, maybe we can start a sticky thread on the Asiana fare classes and their respective earning power on Asiana.
I am guessing here... I checked United's website to see what kind of status mile would a United Milage Club member earn flying with Asiana in different economy class codes:
With Unitied Milage Club members flying on Asiana flights
Y, B, E, H, K, M, Q, S (Standard ?), and U (shuttle service!?) yeilds 100% status miles for United Milage Club members... Does that mean it will also yeild 100% for Asiana club members?
Then I cross reference that with ANA and it seems inconsistant.
For ANA Milage Club members flying on Asiana:
Y, E, U (Expert Flyer says Shuttle Service - a bus?) 100% status miles
B, K, H, M, S, Q - gives only 70% status miles
I pulled another cross reference with Air Canada's Aeroplan.
For Air Canada Aeroplan members flying on Asiana:
U, Y, E, B, M, H, Q, S, K 100% status miles
V, W - 70% status miles
So what is the status mile earning power for each class for Asiana Club members? The red is the inconsistant part from different airlines.
