National - DC Metro Area now One-Way Rentals

I got a shock today returning at DCA. I had rented from BWI and the 3 WAS metro airports were always considered as one. I guess not anymore, I got hit with a $.35/mile charge. (It was on my reservation, but I didn't notice it) They took it off when I pleaded ignorance. I rented in July picking up at IAD and returning to DCA and this was not the case. Even IAD-DCA is now considered one-way. Does anyone know why and when this took effect and is Florida included? The whole state of FL used to be considered as the same location. The person at the desk said that now any pickup and return from different locations, it doesn't matter where, is now one-way.

That whole region seems messed up right now. BWI-MDT is $157/day one way, but MDT-BWI is still only $74 one-way. I didn't see the .35/mile charge yet for BWI-DCA the other day, or to rentals involving Union Station - but they were obviously no longer coterminals because the weekend rates for one-ways were no longer the same as for returning to the same location.
Since most of my travel in that area involves one-way rentals of some sort, this is a big problem for me. Hopefully it will reset itself in a few weeks, or else I'll be forced to endure the Green Line and the M30 bus between downtown DC and BWI.

OP - did you change the destination without telling them? I just looked at quotes for both weekend and weekday rentals between BWI and DCA and IAD, and the rates were the exact same as dropping off at BWI, no per-mile charge listed in the estimated cost.

And I checked FL and it's the same price from MIA to MIA as MIA to JAX. Wonder if your rental was messed up b/c of the merging of the National and Enterprise systems. I see they renamed a lot of locations and even rentals that had been picked up last year the name changed in the rental history. For instance the Sheraton Woodbridge changed to the Renaissance Woodbridge (hotel changed over this past year)

No. Looking at my confirmation it shows 0 free miles included. On my confirmation from July P/U IAD and return DCA it shows unlimited miles included. I also just made one to check again and this time BWI-DCA shows unlimited again. Maybe it was a glitch when I booked or something, but keep an eye out.

Did you use a diff. contract id? Some contract ids may consider it one way and allow no free miles.

When I rented from National earlier this month, I made a reservation picking up/dropping off at DC, changed my dropoff location to Union Station in the middle of the reservation, and still didn't get hit with any extra fees. Sounds fishy.
