I travel often LAX to PVG. I used to take business class when the economy was better. Now I have to take Y class, have been doing so for the last two years. My boss has been good enough to let me take premium economy. And premium economy on ANA is almost as good as business on United. By the way I book my miles on my US Dividend Miles account so I do not have status on ANA.

My usual flight is LAX to NRT in premium economy, then NRT to PVG in standard economy. Flew in a week and a half ago and everything was as usual. Then I checked in at PVG on my return. I was told that the flight was very full and I was given a free upgrade from standard economy to business class! I checked in this morning at NRT and the same thing happened, was told that the flight was very full and was upgraded from premium economy to business class for free.

In these difficult times extra service like this builds great loyalty. I was already very pleased with ANA but now my loyalty has increased greatly.:D

I agree, I wonder how can one say 38" of legroom in NH premium economy is as good as to 55" of legroom in old UA C or 74" of legroom in new UA C.

Besides, NH premium economy serve the exact same meal in economy, you are getting the exact same service as Y other than the seat. THe food on UA C may not be as good as NH C, but it is still serve by course, linens and china. NH premium economy is serve on plastic !

Definitely send this praise through their website. I shot along a thank you note after my Japan trip and got a really friendly response saying they'd relay it to the ground crews.

you are one lucky guy! I have very rarely gotten op-ups on ANA.

I had a similiar thing happen back in May. These days i'm practically always upgraded to the premium economy, but after spending the night with a layover in narita, I went to the check-in for my NRT-IAD flight, and was told that economy was full, and that they upgraded me to business. Even added the priority tags to my bag that was at the airport overnight.

Whenever ANA does upgrades, if you didnt pay for it (miles, pay at check-in, etc...), its entirely based on capacity, the Japanese never do it for any other reason.

Reading Comprehension FAIL!

Read between lines...

Or you are also the ones who compare Y with C?

On the other hand, ANA-style service makes up for a lot, and 38" seat pitch is a world better than 31" in regular Y.
