I know they had cut these back to 2 a week but now it seems there are no flights at all offering First class between HKG and NRT.

My AONE just lost yet another F sector.

Noticed this recently when booking HKG-NRT there is a 1500 odd departure on JL to NRT that has an F cabin on a 744. May be worth a shot to keep the F segment?

Depending when you are flying, F is offered to Osaka on certain days.

Moomba,

When were you looking? I am booked on the CX HKG-NRT in A in early Sept and it is still showing F and A for every Sat in Sept through to early Oct. (Mind you I hope that there won't be a last minute a/c substitution - I will be very mad at myself for not switching to the JL flight.)

Sorry I was in a rush and only remembered I hadn't stated when my flights were once I was onboard a plane.

My flighs are in February 2010. Previously there were flights with F from HKG-NRT on a Friday and the return on a Saturday and likewise Sunday/Monday. Both of these have disappeared from the schedules.

As to JL, well if someone can convince them to join OneWorld and actually offer A class availability I would fly with them.

Whatever you do, don't call CX to talk about the downgrade. You don't want on your record that you 'accepted' a downgrade. If you present a F class ticket and booking then CX will normally give you some cash compensation.

Other reports tend to suggest that you're likely to get absolutely nothing.

They will tell you to go to the issuing agent and seek compensation for the downgrade. If you ask whether you get F class points and SCs for the downgraded flight, they will say that you get Biz class points and SCs because you will get compensation. I can't yet verify if the compensation actually does happen.

And as for JL NRT-HKG, I have recently seen A class available about 2 weeks out from a nominated date.

Which flights in Asia offer a daily regular service in F, besides KA with HKG-PVG/PEK as well as HKG-BOM on CX? There seems to be few if any F flights operating through Asia these days on CX particularly where there used to be a few flight such as to BKK, SIN and NRT....:(

I was looking, again in Feb, to see if there was some other route that could assure me an F service. Even BOM seems to have lost F as well. The daily flight is a 343 with new J seat and Y only.

ICN and CGK seem to still have a once or twice weekly service on 74A.

I think I might just sit on my booking for now and see how things pan out later this year. I did notice that the HKG-NRT-HKG sectors of my CX ticketed AONE now show as OPEN.

There seems to be some to KIX too, although quite spartan like to ICN and CGK....I wonder if when Premium Air Travel recovers, there will be a return of regular F service to destinations such as NRT, ICN, SIN and BKK.....

MNL & TPE too of course, but hardly worth the use of an F coupon.

For what its worth, last year on an AONEx I arrived at HKG (from JNB I think) & there had been a last minute a/c sub for my HKG-SIN flight. I was met at the arrival gate and given a new boarding pass for J and cash compensation. No offer of rescheduling to another flight.

Slightly OT... but does anyone have any experience of how frequent a/c substitutions have been on the HKG-NRT Sat 77A service since F was dropped to once weekly? Looking ahead over the next few weeks it seems that that flight is a mixture of 77A and 74A which is a bit concerning.

Both 77A and 74A have F suites so nothing to worry about there if those are the only subs.

I never had any trouble finding A availability on JL. And they are a member of OneWorld...

I have always had trouble finding A availability on JL except at short notice when they open it up. All flights between HKG and NRT show as A0 for the week in February I want to travel. Why can't they open up a few for flights that far out?

Yes I know they are a member of OW I was being facetious.

I'm planning a AONE4 with Asia travel in 2011. I realise this is too far away to make any solid statements regarding A availability, but which flight combination does everyone think have the most likelihood of offering A class on either CX or JL? I would have though HKG-NRT, HKG-ICN, HKG SIN. I realise it will only be regional First standard cabin, but under my reward earning scheme with QF it makes a big difference to retention of my status.

There's no such thing as "Regional First" on CX (not sure about JL). If there is F class, then it is long haul F.

It's hard to say, but on CX, I think it's hard to bet that any of these routes are going to have F class. I think once the schedules for your travel period are released, if you see an F class flight, get your ticket issued immediately so that at least you will have an A class coupon so if you get shunted to J class, for status purposes you will still have A class coupon to claim points.

so that at least you will have an A class coupon so if you get shunted to J class, for status purposes you will still have A class coupon to claim points.Eh? It's never worked like that for me. An A coupon on a flight that doesn't have First has only ever got me business class miles/points.

But was your ticket issued as F class or J class? I'm talking of the case where you are confirmed in F class, but you get an aircraft substitution.

Still only J miles in my experience. Moreover, you're struggling to get any compensation at all if you're on an A ticket. This is one of the things that really annoys me about CX's totally random F flights around the region: you end up paying multiple change fees to keep moving AONEx tickets around as CX keeps moving the F flights (I had to do this twice this year as first Japan and then Bombay lost F). AA was not at all receptive to my proposal that involuntary downgrades should enable me to reroute without paying the US$125 change fee.

That has happened to me a couple of times. Once a CDG-HKG-SYD issued in F when they eliminated F on the HKG-SYD: I only got J miles. This was CX issued ticket on CX only (not AONE) and after a lot of complaining they made a small commercial gesture (upgrade certificate for another segment). It also happened to me once on AONE with the segment issued in A but ac sub and flown in J and miles credited for J. I did not even get any compensation, nor was I expecting any.
