Hey
I am flying Qatar airways on august 28 from Tunis to Doha and wanted to do cash upgrade upon check in; does anyone know how much will it coast me?
I am travelling on QR 569 and this flight has economy and first class only. I am booked in K(economy) class.
Thank you in advance
Cheers

The general feeling is that it can not be done. There are lots of other threads about this, but my personal experience is that IF you can get a ground station person to check, the answer will always be the same cost as a full-fare C.
That does not mean you shouldn't give it a try and let us know what they say.

It won't be a fare calculation between K class and full C class cos there is no C. It will be a fare diff calculation between K and F!
Cash upgrade won't be the best thing cos the airport might just charge you the diff between your K fare and the highest F fare. There are 'specials' available which are restricted F class fares booked in A class. At the airport, they will just charge you F fare.
There are certain days that has C class... strange, most of the other days are with F only and the aircraft used are 333s and 332s which has 2 classes. So QR is selling the C class as F class seats.
===========
If you're in K class return, I see that your fare is around US$850 incl tax.
If you want to experience F class one way either going or coming back, you will need to reissue your ticket BEFORE you get to the airport because it will definitely be the better deal.
One segment of your K class ticket would need to be rebooked in H class, (incidentally there is a lower class of economy available that day in H class. Don't know why you booked in K class which is slightly more expensive) and the other segment would be rebooked in A class. The fare for this would be US$ 1187 incl tax. The diff is only US$ 340. You just need to add on US$50 for the 'change'.
If you wait till you go to the airport to do this, you will be charged what the full F class oneway fare will be between TUN and DOH. Which comes out as US$ 1409, making a diff of about US$ 560. Plus the change fee of US$ 50.
Compared to the above of US$ 1187 return, which do you think has the better deal?
When is your return and are you flexible in changing it to a day that has C class? Cos if you stick to the outbound date of Aug 28, then return on a day that has C, your fare will only be US$ 1009, a diff of only US$ 162. Again, cos the rebooking of your K class will be to change it to H class, and return in D class. Plus US$ 50 change fee again.

Hey Guy Betsy. Really thank you so much for your detailed explanation and for the time you spent to reply to me. I will give you more details about my ticket.
My ticket is bought in Japan. And my flights started from Tokyo Haneda, to Tunis via Osaka Kansai and Doha. The fare I paid is : 138.890 JPY which is around 1472 USD. My fare basis is : YKIT1MJP2
Today I called Doha to ask about the fare difference, they said I should ask the Qatar Airways Tunis office to send a telex to Tokyo office and ask them to do the fare difference calculation as they cant do it from Doha.
I have already upgraded the Doha-Osaka on the 29th of august to Business class using mileage but I dont want to do the same for Tunis Doha. Tunis Doha upgrade will coast me 45000 miles whereas Doha Osaka coasted me only 35000 miles to upgrade. I cant change my ticket for 2 reasons: First its restricted ticket and second I have to be in Tokyo before the 31st as I am flying to Paris on the first of September with Qatar also.
Are you sure that it will coast me the amount you stated? I really hope so. so what do you advise me? Qatar Airways always operates 2 class aircrafts with economy and first class. Actually its business class sold as first, the same seats. Its very rare when they send 3 class aircrafts.
Please advise me more. If you need anything more please let me know. On Monday I will call the Qatar Airways Tunis office and see what they will do. Do you think its possible that they wont be able to do the fare difference calculation?? They say Japan has special conditions so I am not sure.
Thanks in advance

Well, for starters you didn't specify anything about your ticket so I just presumed that you're originating from TUN to DOH.
The fact that your ticket was bought through a TA in Japan with a special fare changes everything. QR is right that they need to contact Japan to see what the fare diff is as the fare is unpublished and special only for ex-Japan departures.
Sorry but you're stuck at where you're at and since its originating Japan expects more than just a few hundred dollars. Also bear in mind that its cheaper to upgrade the entire segment than just one segment. But chances are this 'special' fare cannot be upgraded without lots of $$$$ !

You could of course, refund the return portion of your current ticket and buy another ticket from TUN:
One way on QR (TUN-DOH-KIX):
in Y 927TND (about 700USD)
in F 2540TND (1925USD)
Or you could go for a return trip (if you're ever going back to TUN)
in Y 1300TND (993USD)
in F 4002TND (3035USD)
You could then buy the return in F, and add a stopover in Doha on the way back some time in the future.
Keep in mind that ex-Japan fares in F are three times dearer than departing TUN so this option may be the best value.
