I would imagine that is the case system wide within OZ. Hence, you will be looking at 85K for Y, 125K for C, and 170K for F if you are flying OZ metal. On the other hand, if you book a *A award, you will be looking at 78K for Y, 115K for C, and 150K for F since LAX-HKG-LAX should fall within Z5 category (between 10K-15K distance RT). Hope this helps. LAX JALlover Aug 21, 09, 8:05 am When I looked at OZ's US website, HKG is listed within South East Asia. I would imagine that is the case system wide within OZ. I thought you only need origin and destination for purchasing. What am I missing? LAX Yes, it does matter, you probably had never tried OZ site for reservation before. As if you go to the US site, you can only have US cities for departure, even though you click on southeast asia, it would only pop up a box asking you to go to the departing region's site. As far as I know, it is the same with NH, their US site only show departure regions in N.America, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. If your departure is like from HKG, you need to use Japan site in order to do that. ORDnHKG Aug 21, 09, 1:23 pm I would like to book a ticket from HKG-LAX, but which region should I go on to check availability, since HKG is not listed in China nor SouthEast Asia Yes, it is really weird, I know from the OZ route map, HKG is listed as southeast asia, but when you do a dummy booking, it only show departures from SIN, BKK, TPE and DEL. Btw, if you are in HKG, why bother to use OZ website to book a trip for HKG-LAX ? There are so many travel agents in HKG in all areas local big names like Hong Tai, Wing On Travel, etc. Just call them or go to their offices they will tell you what is the cheapest flight for HKG-LAX one way or roundtrip, and what price is it with OZ, they can also tell you if the fare accure miles. For once, I know OZ is not the cheapest out of HKG to LAX. LAX Aug 21, 09, 10:08 pm Yes, it does matter, you probably had never tried OZ site for reservation before. For once, I know OZ is not the cheapest out of HKG to LAX. Not sure about ex-HKG, but ex-LAX, the Taiwanese carriers are pretty aggressive on price, coming out as the cheapest many times. OZ does occasionally come out on top, though (I guess bottom for the cheapest fare). LAX DownUnderFlyer Aug 22, 09, 7:17 am Many people will not just book the cheapest carrier but the purchasing decision will depend on many aspects, price being one of them. Of course, you don't need fly JL all the time. In fact, you don't always have to fly within the alliance to which it belongs either.:D Enjoy OZ. LAX lol, JAL of course would still be on my list, but OZ could have a lower price, especially the tax charges for JL are quite high also, I never tried OZ before, this can help to make comparison between them!;) ORDnHKG Aug 22, 09, 7:55 pm lol, JAL of course would still be on my list, but OZ could have a lower price, especially the tax charges for JL are quite high also, I never tried OZ before, this can help to make comparison between them!;) Have you tried CX ? CX is also a 5 star airline, and they fly nonstop HKG-LAX 2 flights a day except wednesday and sunday. Also with CX, it is guranteed AVOD, as it is using 77W for LAX flights. With OZ, if you are on the 777, you would only get 50% chance. If I don't care about getting miles on *A, I would choose CX or SQ over OZ in Y anytime. Keep in mind CX and SQ also give you amenity kit and menus in Y, but none with OZ. The CX amenity kit in Y is nice as it is a nylon zipper bag, really good to reuse to put small things in there. CX and SQ FA also speaks much better English than OZ FA, but of course unless you speak Korean. LAX Aug 22, 09, 11:41 pm Have you tried CX ? I don't know what CX's new Y seats are like, but I doubt they would offer more room. With regards to SQ, the pitch is mostly 32', which can be tight for some. If one is only concerned about service and amenities, that would be a different story although OZ is not bad. LAX ORDnHKG Aug 23, 09, 5:51 pm In Y, I am not so sure since OZ offers 34' pitch. LAX I can hardly see any difference with 34" pitch, just like so many UA fliers dislike UA 744 in E+, as it is 34". Btw, CX's new Y is already an advantage as the seat infront wouldn't recline on you, decreases your room. That is the same type of seat in JL's premium economy. Overrall, SQ and CX is a better carrier to fly in Y. OZ Y is kinda similiar with NH and JL Y. |
