anyone know the specifics about stopovers on a one world award? i know that there is 5 allowed but can i only stopover in certain cities? (ex: only one world airline hubs like LHR, HKG, AMM etc) or any city of my choosing as long as it's "on the way". And also does the destination count as 1 of my stopover cities as well?

im a college student and have been saving up my miles for long time as i go to hkg to visit family.. so this will be graduation present to myself next year thus i want to get as much as possible on this trip and plan early so i can get award seats.

here's some ideas i had about possible routings: please give feedback if you can
x=stopover t=transfer //=open jaw

SEA-xLHR-xAMM-xDXB-xBOM-xHKG-tYVR-SEA

SEA-xLHR-xAMM-xDXB-//BOM-xHKG-xPVG-tNRT-YVR

crazy one i just thought of(likely wont work):
JFK-xLHR-xAMM-xDXB-//BOM-tBKK-xSYD-xHKG-YVR

thanks

i forgot about the rules for open jaw (was it 2)? but the 5 stopover point can be anywhere, as long as you can connect to your next point. and you can backtrack as well (as long as it's not the origin, obviously).
I did this earlier this month:
LHR-HKG-KIX//ITM-HND//NRT-xAMS-LHR
(x denotes transit). If I had the time and I dont mind going thru T4 in LHR i could have gone LHR-BKK-HKG-KIX//ITM-HND//NRT-xAMS-LHR

as long as you hv the miles and availability fir it, anything works!

x=stopover t=transfer //=open jawThe standard notations is o=stopover, x=transit, //=open jaw

You can do any routing you want unless it is specifically forbidden by the rules. The miles you have to pay is determined by the total flight miles of all the segments added together.

the important thing is to be creative when thinking about the itinerary.

also check the prices for tickets between places - sometimes it's better to buy a ticket than to put it in your award flights. the miles needed depend on the distance - and so if a short trip in your itinerary bumps you up into the next redemption category, you're sometimes better off paying for a ticket, or redeeming it separately. (for example, the extra few hundred miles from HKG to TPE might bump you into the next category - 30000 more miles - you should pay for the ticket or redeem it separately instead).

and think about the carriers you want to fly with - the more airlines/flights there are, the better your chances of getting an award flight. and choose wisely, since some airlines are better than others!

here are two itineraries that i've redeemed recently - i flew the first one in april, and the second one i'll do next march. both in J. in the first itinerary, i paid for my trip from lima to quito instead of redeeming it. they allowed three transfers for my first itinerary - they just counted one of my transfers as a stopover.

HKG - LHR (transfer) - MIA (transfer) - Lima // Quito - MIA (transfer) - JFK - NRT - HKG (total 160,000 asia miles)

HKG - JFK (transfer) - Santiago - Easter Island - Santiago (transfer) - JFK - NRT // Nagoya - HKG (total 190,000 asia miles)
