JetBlue TrueBlue - Value of a JetBlue Amex Reward Dollar

Okay so I just got the JetBlue Biz Amex. I understand how things work, 1 Award Dollar per dollar spent except on some purchases where you get 2, etc. But, I am wondering, has anyone done a calculation figuring out a rough worth in US dollars for each Award Dollar? I ask because I have another Amex card, that gives 2.5% cash back for most purchases, and another that gives at least 1.5% for all. SO are the award dollars worth more than 1.5 cents? I realize this all changes when the new TB program stars, but for now...

thanks!

I would recommend against putting any spend on the card unless you have a bunch of old TB points that you are trying to get up to 100 points to redeem. Otherwise they will end up at a value of roughly zero. At 200 spend points you get 1 classic TB point right now.

Once the redemption details of the new program are announced there will be some insight into the value of the points, but for now it doesn't make sense since the old points cannot convert to new ones.

As it seems to be based on VX's program whose points are worth about 2.5 cents each, most likely each dollar you charge would be equivalent to around a 2.5% rebate, going up to 5% for double point purchases. We won't know for sure until the award table is released.

If you have a business card and are charging $10,000s a month or already have points under the old scheme, then you can go ahead an charge enough to get a free ticket under the old scheme and then after you receive your September statement, your charges will all go on to the new program.

Where are you getting that idea? Particularly since they haven't released specifics on the redemption levels at all.

They were VERY quick to state that it is not a linear scale for the redemption levels. Time will tell, but rightnow we just don't know enough about the point values in the program to know what a CC point value is going to be in TB2.

But the new points will convert to the old points so that you can get up to the 100 point level to get a free r/t flight:

"What's going to happen to my current TrueBlue points when TrueBlue relaunches?
If you have not earned a TrueBlue Award by the time the program relaunches, you will be able to use the points you earn in the new program and convert them back into old TrueBlue points in order to get to an Award. Old TrueBlue points will continue to expire according to their original expiry date.

For example: A TrueBlue member has 60 old TrueBlue points when the program relaunches and then earns 10,000 points in the new program. That member can convert some of their new points into old points in order to reach a total of 100 old TrueBlue points for an Award Flight. The conversion rate for new TrueBlue points to old TrueBlue points is 200 to 1. That means the member would need to use 8,000 new TrueBlue points to get 40 old TrueBlue points. They would then add those 40 points to their remaining 60 points to reach 100 points for an Award Flight. The remaining 2,000 new points would stay in their new TrueBlue member balance."

Right, but at a pretty bad rate relative to what we've been told the new points are going to be worth. This is what I wrote in a similar thread yesterday:
Mostly because it forces the new, "better" points into the old, "worse" program. They talk about just how awesome the new program is, with lower redemption rates, no blackouts, etc., but that turns out to be a tease because of the way the conversion from old to new works.

Say you have 20 TB1 points. To redeem a TB1 award you'll have to earn 16,000 TB2 points (200:1 ratio). Those 16K TB2 points are supposedly worth more than one r/t on the TB2 scheme in most cases but converting them to the old isn't even a full old reward - you need the orphaned points still in your account, too.

I somewhat understand not converting the old points forward 1:200, but only a tiny bit. For most people the old points will simply expire out month by month and they'll be irrelevant quite quickly. If you have ~75 points or more it probably would make sense to try to get to 5000 points and cash out the TB1 reward, but anything much more than that and it starts to become very questionable, IMO.

Of course, this depends on what the actual TB2 redemption details prove to be, but I can only go based on what I've heard so far.
