Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - What hotel near the airport in Auckland

I've got an overnight connection in Auckland so I'd like to get a decent hotel (on a business trip) however looking on Trip Advisor it seems every hotel near the airport has horrible reviews. The only one I can find that seems decent is the Hyatt however I'm a little worried it might be a bit for my 7:00 am international departure the next morning.
Am I missing something here?

Not missing anything. Central city hotels are far nicer than the airport based ones, and generally comparable cost. There are plenty of good central hotels - no need to stick with Hyatt particularly, although there aren't too many US chain hotels in NZ.
At that time of day the cab ride to the airport is quick (only a few minutes longer than getting a shuttle from airport hotel by time factor in wait), or you could even take the airbus from Queen St if you have carry on only (nearest airbus stop is a couple of blocks down the hill from Hyatt).

Thanks for the info!
I've got quite a bit of gear with me so walking any significant distance is to be avoided if possible. How much would a taxi cost me from say the Hyatt to the Airport? I am after all on a budget :)

Last week my cab from AKL to The Langham Hotel (about 5 mins drive from the Hyatt) was $NZD74.40

90 USD isn't exactly a large budget if you ask me. In most place that will not take you very far....
As for the cab, 74 NZD$, ouch.... Thats a bit on the high side :(

I have only ever taken a Taxi between AKL and downtown three time due to the expense.
First time at 2am it was $68 to Customs st Mecure, $71 to Hilton at 6:30pm and $76 from Hilton (10am).

really? I thought the Ventura Inn got decent reviews.
I have booked one night there before my return flight after a 2week trip next month.
I have no first hand experience, but the reviews seemed good.
Free shuttle to airport 24 hrs
Free b-fast starting at 3:30 am for early flights.
Decent price (I think we reserved at about $75 USD).

Yep I arrived at the hotel around 5pm last Monday (10th) and the traffic was pretty normal for that time of day.
