I will need an additional 3,422 miles before 12/31 to re-qualify for Diamond CX after taking into account all my scheduled segments (including 2 LAX-MNL flights in C).

I am trying to figure out the least painful segment to fly in terms of hours, cost, connections and comfort to achieve them.

I can fly out of LAX, HKG or MNL.

LAX-ORD comes to mind as it is inexpensive if scheduled ahead (under $300) and it is an ideal 3,480 miles. But the though of a RT in AA in Y in one day on a narrow body (no one day connection works using the single 767 flight both ways) is not exciting.

If you have any suggestions as the best way to achieve the 3,422 miles on a Business Class seat for the lowest cost I will appreciate.

Also - While I am Gold on AA and could purchase an upgrade, the status is low and I do not believe that Emeralds really get any upgrade privileges on AA.

Thanks

My suggestion would be to pick a CX route that's heavily booked, use the Diamond privilege to book in V, and get (with with high probability) the op-up to J, with the fallback of an on departure miles upgrade if the op-up doesn't come through.

A CX flight MNL-HKG-BKK and back will give you 4398 miles and will cost US$1,000 on an I Ticket (business). Not too bad (considering the economy ticket would be over $600), but you would have to stay overnight in BKK.

Just call up Marco Polo and since you were a Diamond member in previous year they will most likely renew you without having to make that run.

On Departure miles upgrade still need YBHK ticket .... :(

I got a couple of extra months from MP to make the 120K - they allowed it because the flights were already scheduled and tickets purchased, but I need to make the 120K because of the extension. That was the deal.

I looked at the MNL-HKG -BKG (I actually flew that route a couple of weeks ago). I am trying to avoid an overnight - so far - LAX-ORD-LAX looks the simplest.

Thanks for the suggestions

How about Shanghai? About US$1200 all in. Possible same day easily.

I need to fly LAX to Mexico City. Mexicana has not yet joined One World but they codeshare with American. I could always do LAX-DFW-MEX-DFW-LAX (this makes a 3 1/2 hour flight more like 8) but I wonder if I take an AA flight with an AA flight number on Mexicana Metal will I earn Club Miles? It is only 3,000 miles on the non-stop but if I get a FC ticket I get the 50% bonus.

I believe you will get miles but it would take a long time to post. Remember it is based on the date of posting rather than the date flown.

Have you considered HKG-DPS rtn or HKG-SUB rtn? Opup chances are very high on these "domestic workers route", mileage fares are around HK$4k I think.

I emailed MP and the answer is no. An AA codeshare on MX metal does not earn club miles.

I plan to do LAX-DFW-MEX-DFW-LAX. That should take care of the points I need,

Not necessarily pertaining to AA, but here's something (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mexico/687173-1-hr-turnaround-mex-feasible.html) you can read for your turnaround at MEX.

Thanks. In MEX I will stay a couple of days.
Turnaround in MEX could get complicated for International flights.
There are no Airline counters (for most) Airside. To get to them, Immigration and customs could have long lines depending on time of day.
