I can't see how this is possible? I called OZ ticket office in ORD and they said not a problem with the 1 hr connection. How do you unload a 774 and get to your gate then board in less than 1 hr? I checked the OZ website, orbitz and Expedia and they all show the 1 hr connection.
The ICN-ORD flight runs every other day so what happens when you miss your connecting in ICN?
I am super excited to try out OZ but don't wanna be stranded at ICN.

There are airports like MUC which offer 30 Minute connections or even less. So 60 Minutes is not unheard of.
As long as this is on one ticket and you are not in too much trouble if you miss the connection then I would do this.
Transit at ICN can be very quick. Out of the plane in 10 Minutes, through transit and upstairs in another 10 minutes. You can be at the gate before boarding has even started.
If you miss the connection, then OZ has to look after you. They will provide you with a hotel and meal vouchers maybe additional compensation and will put you on the next available flight.
If everything runs "normally" (ie: arriving flight is on time, you are not the last person off the plane, transit security is not extraordinarily busy, etc.), you are more than fine with an hour. Should something goes wrong, as DUF said, you are covered as long as both flights are on the same tix. BTW, enjoy OZ, I now try to fly OZ as much as I can.

It seems like the person who design the schedule is definately drunk !
Leaving 30 min earlier just doesn't make sense, as when it gets to ORD, the plane still sit for 8 hrs til the departure of ORD-ICN at 1am.
In the past, this two flights always have 1 hour and 30 min connection time, in fact, before OZ change ICN-ORD to a 3 class 777, it was 74M, and using the same aircraft for both segment HKG-ICN, ICN-ORD.

Perhaps it is timed to a bank of UA-connecting departures out of ORD.

When you arrive at ICN, go out and take any transfer gate (there are multiple gates in asiana side, I mean, east side of main terminal). In my case, I was the only one through that transfer security gate so it only took 1-2 min to pass the security and back on departing (upper) level.
You might be better to know which gates you are going to use for the first flight and the second flight. But as long as you fly both on OZ flights, gates are so close to each other.

Ah, don't think so, at that time of the evening in ORD T5, it is arriving with a bunch of european flights, immigration plus baggage claim generally take approximately 2 hours to clear (even that I was the first pax off the plane on the 777), hard for anyone to connect with other leftover UA flights for the day.
OZ had been running this schedule since the introducing of the ORD service back in the summer of 05. I had flown on this route 4 months after the service starts.

No it wasn't that fast at that time of the evening at ICN. Even with the old connection time 1hr and 30 min, after security, I barely have time to have a quick cigarette and it is already boarding for Y !
I can also tell you this flight usually departs close to the LAX flight.
