South - Killing a few hours in Rocky Mount, NC

I will be taking a same day train trip of Durham-Rocky Mount-Durham over Labor Day Weekend with my Father. I gather the Amtrak Station in Rocky Mount is close to downtown. We will have about 2.5 hours and I'm wondering if any FTers have any restaurants they suggest for lunch and anything we should see/do during our brief stay.

The Amtrak station is in the old downtown area - most of the restaurants are in the newer residential areas to the northwest. Central Cafe is about 4 blocks north of the station - they make good burgers, hot dogs, diner food. Popular with locals.

Sadly, Downtown Rocky Mount is really derelict as you said. I wish we had had time to go check out the newer parts to the Northwest. The Amtrak Station is great though.
