Hello every one. My wife and children are on QR046 from Manchester to Doha but the airbridge has hit the plane and they dont seem to be giving out information as to what will happen next. Does any one know QR standard operating procedure is in a case like this?
Thanks for any help.

Were you actually on the aircraft when you wrote this? Sorry to not be of much help, but seems like your crew would like some, though! Good luck. It can be terrible for the kids, I can understand...

No I was not on the plane but my wife was. No information from anyone. Our children are 4 and 6 and to add to the problem our little boy is coeliac and doesnt have a great deal of food with him.
Im in Doha and feeling V frustrated.

With all due respect but a flight number , ie QR46 cannot be damaged by anything. It is the aircraft that is damaged! But in this case, it is by 'extraordinary circumstances' which I believe will then exempt QR from any sort of compensation to passengers.

Trust me, you are not the only ones that don't know anything. QR themselves would like to know what to do in such extraordinary circumstances cos its not an everyday situation that one's aircrafts gets hit by the airbridge. And I doubt any airline has a plan as to what happens when an airbridge hits one particular part of an aircraft, in every city it flies to !

Phone calls need to be made to headquarters, to control, to flight planning, to crew scheduling, to the managing director, to BAA (if Manchester airport is under them), to Manchester Airport's directors, managers, to the operator handling the airbridge, to everyone involved that day... etc etc

So you get my point....

Passengers do NOT need to know the logistics of this. Yeah, too bad it happened to you .. and everyone else. But these things happen.

Wouldn't it be safer for you and all concerned than to fly with a damaged aircraft? In this situation, it wasn't QR's fault really.

As to your child's celiac problem... it is always a good idea to pack some snacks along the way. Delays can happen .. and airport food are not gluten-free friendly!

Sorry, this may not be the news you want to hear... but I know QR is doing their best. If the aircraft is deemed inoperable, then either a replacement aircraft is sent to MAN, or everyone will be scattered onto other flights to fly to DOH.

In any case, welcome to FlyerTalk and the QR forum, nogoingbackhome !!

Guy Betsy, I find your reply rather interesting. The point that reads weird to me is 'it wasn't QR fault really'

How on earth did you come to such conclusion?
Unless of course if you were there when it happened, and witnessed the event and knew the in's and out's of the incident. I would be careful about making such a call about who's at fault.

The OP's question, though is about SOP, reads to me more about what his family should expect as compensation.
I am sure some EU regulations could kick in if the family was delayed more than x hours or if they were transfered to a different airline/flights later than x hours etc. Other posters could shed more light on this.

OP said: "the airbridge has hit the plane ".... It usually is the fault of airbridges, catering trucks, etc that hits planes.
