I have an CX upgrade certificate, and am wondering if using it would entitle me to the upgraded class' AsiaMiles and ClubMiles (similar to a 'V' upgrade on boarding passes) or would I not be entitled to it (similar to an invol op-up?).

Thanks for your help!

No extra miles for upgrade certificates - you only get the higher class miles if you pay for the upgrade using money.

It depends on the class code CX will give you. They often mistakenly print the J class on the boarding pass. If that is the case, you are lucky to get extra miles and club miles as well.

Eh? No boarding pass I have had recently on CX has had the ticketing class on it. They simply have a seat number either under Economy, Business or First. And even before that they only ever had F, J or Y as far as I recall, defining the cabin flown, but nothing about how it was ticketed.

The current generation of boarding passes do say F/J/Y on them (on the larger left section, not the stub), but that only relates to the cabin class, not booking class. For example, if you've booked in class V, the BP will still say Y.

Also, whenever I've been op-up due to overbooking, when I've been given a Business BP at checkin instead of Economy, my BP will still say J but I will be credited with Y miles.

Similar if you've redeemed an upgrade the BP will say J and not U, and you will not get J miles for this.

I disagree with post 3 and think that F/J/Y is just the cabin you're sitting in and nothing to do with the number of miles you're going to get. The actual booking class is nowhere to be seen on the boarding passes.

Sorry yes, looking again, on the lower left of the boarding pass

<boarding number>/<F|J|Y>/<seat no>/<destination (TLA)>/ET

Not sure what goes in place of ET for non electronic tickets these days. But clearly the F|J|Y is just the cabin - my latest boarding passes were for flights booked in A & D and they showed F & J respectively there.
