After the rental credits convert into a free day you have until 12/31 of the following year. Both rental credits and free days expire 12/31 of the following year. So 3 rental credits earned in 09 will expire 12/31/10. But if you earn two more credits in 2010 (if EE) then those credits turn into a free day and that free day will be good until 12/31/11.

As a National employee, I just wanted to clarify that a member's credit remains valid as long as that person is a member of the Program. Free days, however, expire on December 31 of the year following the year in which they were earned. Thanks!
