I just tried to change the CC on my reservation and it won't let me because the airport is sold out during that time. When I leave the airport, can I just hand the kiosk person the CC I want them to use?
Do I need to put the card on my profile?
I believe National will jot down your car info on paper and send you to the Emerald Aisle counter or to their main counter.

My first national rental I stopped at the counter not knowing any better, they asked "everything the same, credit card, etc?" I answered yes, they said to just go pick up the car no need to stop there.
I'm assuming for the credit card change they would have processed it there and sent me to the car.

I'm pretty certain that if you want to use a different CC, you just hand that different CC to the kiosk person at checkout.

You may also substitute a different CC when you return the car. You would ask that this CC be used for the actual payment. There is no need for it to be in your Profile.

If you wish to change your credit card on return , you would have to go to the counter, as the handheld units in the return area are not capable to switch payments. The easiest solution is when you are picking up the car, tell the exit booth agent you want to change cards for this rental and present it to them BEFORE they start processing your ental.
If this is a one time only change, there is no need to change your profile.

That is what I do almost every time. I often reserve with a corporate card (on my account), but want to pay with personal card.
Takes an extra 30 seconds, but it has never been a problem at the kiosk.

ditto for 'presenting a (different) card at the exit booth': all my hotel-car booking profiles use a $10 limit 'virtual' card number ;)

You can always reserve with your personal card if you want. I have both stored in the profile. I think National fixed a bug sometimes this year which now allows the chosen card to be charged. I had issues earlier when it used to always charge my Corporate card as it was the default on my profile regardless of what I specify when making the reservation.
