I just got bumped up to C off a non refundable super saver. I didn't even asked.
:D
So maybe JAL is in either finally changing it's tune do to the economy or things have gotten that bad.
Either way, I'm looking forward to finally trying C :D

Congrats on the op up. I wonder how many people got upgraded. Probably not enough seats in Y after switching to 773 especially under this economy (or they are just moving the fatties to the front to balance the plane :p). I wonder if the same would happen when they switch LAX and ORD to 773. But let me warn you, once you try C, you can't go back to Y :D

Well agreed :D:D:D . they opuped 9 ppl from C to F on my nrt-ams trip but i wont be surprised they're all JMB top tiers from the looks of it. then again it seemed like there was less than 9 free space in C. (after switching to 773 from 772)

Don't even get me started. That econo ride back home is not something I'm looking forward to now :p
Well econo is already sold out on the return so here's hoping. There were a few empties in C so maybe that's why I got the bump.
I was pretty confused at first when the check in attendant told me "I gave you a window seat". I was thinking, "that's funny I got the aisle on the bulkhead, maybe the window freed up and she moved me to there." Then as I walked towards the lounge l looked down and realized that my ticket said executive seasons and my aisle number was 09 and not 45 :p
And yes, it was nice. The only catch was I didn't get any sleep the night before since I planned to sleep most of the flight. Of course since it was my first time in C I had to stay awake long enough to try things out. Though waking up from a good sleep to a plate of curry rice was very nice.
Oh well, I think they're serving seafood curry in Y on the way back ;)

The check in agent should have just told you that you have been upgraded ;) I wonder what would happen if you said "No!!! I want the seat I reserved. It's a bulkhead aisle" :D
Why didn't you use your upgrade points. You know you can upgrade 2 NRT-JFK flights and will still have at least 4 points left right? They will expire in March 2010 if you don't use them. And upgrade is only 10,000 miles now. I know the ticket is a bit more expensive (K vs 30 day N fare) but it totally worths it! You can still pay the penalty and reissue your inbound flight :p

Tell me about it. I dont know how am I gonna get on a plane to get to the back now that I've tried out BA CX and JL in C on an award.
Also, having a bowl of tea+rice + champers, sleep and then a plate of curry rice with tea is just amazing :p
Just wonering- i suppose we ARE entitled to all 4 dishes + the dinner set of the Whenever you want meal, right? (Now i feel terrible i didnt eat my way through the 12 hrs of my flight!!!)

I wasn't aware you could use point upgrade on super saver fares. I thought it has to be like a ticket code B or higher on a dynamic value in order to use upgrade points ??
oops. sorry- thought previosu msg was for me. deleted.

No I don't think you can. But you can upgrade your ticket to the JMB upgradable ones (pay penalty + difference in fare) Or just buy a more expensive ticket next time. Now that you have tried C, don't you think it worths a few extra hundred bucks for that :p And your upgrade points are going to expire in March 2010 anyways.

FWIW, they're headed for restructuring thanks to their massive losses:

Can you believe it. I got two for two and got bumped up on the way back as well. Granted this time around I knew the return was crammed in economy. Needless to say I was surprised regardless when the check in agent apologized profusely in Japanese that economy was sold out and therefore I was being upgraded to business (the horror) ;)
Amazing flight on the ride back, tasting menu was gorgeous as well.
I really don't understand how the other gentlemen in the "Is JAL racist" thread got treated the way he did. I mean I was on back to back Op-ups on 820$ round trip tickets. Everyone treated me graciously, I was referred to by my name at all times. Food was fast and service was over the top to the point that I started to feel like a turkey get fattened for Thanksgiving.
The only thing I've been pondering into how I lucked out twice was this. Economy on these newer 777 seems much smaller than what was on the 747 JL007 I used to take in the mornings, and the C section is way bigger. Since 007/008 is no longer flying and Y is so much smaller it's just selling out faster. That and this was also my first time flying as JGC Sapphire, so maybe they're finally looking at me favorably.

WOW congrats AGAIN! Can't wait for them to switch LAX to 773 then it will be my turn :D But I think they are just trying to get you hooked and have you buy a more expensive ticket next time. This strategy works for me ;)

Congrats on double upgrades! I'm flying out of SFO next Monday and I don't have an assigned seat yet since it's sold out. Do you think what a good time I should go check in for a slight chance to be bumped up? I'm having my fingers and toes crossed.

Your guess is as good as mine. I checked in 3 hours early when I flew out of JFK, and about an hour before boarding at Narita. I would say if you have high enough status on JAL and it's sold out, you should be able to get the bump. But I'm still a little puzzled at the double myself.
