National - How do they know the car was on the EA/ES?

I read some posts where people just took a mini-van or SUV or what have you from their respective section, and when they go to check out play it off like the vehicle was on the Emerald Aisle or Executive Selection.
How do the people checking you out know if that car was on the EA/ES or taken from a different area?

I think it depends on the airport. The only EA/ES location I've experienced is SEA, and there the EA/ES aisles are on level 2 of the parkade, whereas Emerald Reserve is on the first floor with the other rental agencies. Worse still, the Premium/Luxury stalls are RIGHT behind the Emerald Club customer service booth, so you'd pretty much have to be James Bond to pull off a stunt there... :p

have you took a look at the green sticker inside each car? It does say ES or EA on it.

I think it's a green hangtag on the EA and a darker hangtag on the ES.
I've only snagged an alternate car when the ES was empty. Since my goal is to get on the road fast - not argue with the exit guard about whether I excessively upgraded myself - I actually avoid taking luxury, convertible, a large SUV, etc. Really, at that point, I'm looking for an Impala or whatever.
That said, when the ES is empty, the location is frequently out of the "normal" stuff, so at that point I'm grabbing whatever's close by.

The exit booth people look at the level of service checked on the hang tag, not your profile to determine if they are going to let you out with that caddy. I may or may not have gotten a hold of some blank tags and reclassified some cars as ES only to hear the booth people say "Well it's checked ES on the hangtag!" over the phone to some distraught manager wondering what the hell is going on. Good times deserve Suntory Times.

Ethics 101, go back, repeat course, maybe even start back at the age of 5.

 Great...the only possible result at the location where you do this often is that they'll figure out they've been duped and institute some sort of secondary check at the exit, thus slowing everyone else down.
Or...simpler yet...the manager will tell the exit guard "We will never put any more true luxury cars on the ES. If someone claims they found one there, they're lying."
So, thanks a lot for that... :td:
