The title says it more or less; anybody ever flew with emotion wheels?

I'm flying AMS-MCO in a couple of weeks with a friend. I'm used to flying with my manual and powerchair, but friend is a new thing. She has a -very brand new- manual chair with emotion wheels*.

We know AMS is a do-it-yourself airport. They know squat and not much options. (have to tell them myself how to check in a powerchair, sjeez) So friend talked to CO about what to do with her chair because of the wheels.

Sure enough, CO is very confused. They know manual chairs, they know powerchairs, but a cross over like this? Yeiks.

My common sense would say; take out the batteries, check them in seperately and after the removal; the chair has become a standard manual chair, which she can now take with her to the gate. (they don't allow gate checking at AMS for powerdriven aids)

However, CO is confused about the whole thing, and not really a lot of help. Worst case scenario, she could check the wheels in seperately and put the wheels of my spare manual chair on hers, which would allow her to take her own chair to the gate. However, this is not the easiest nor most comfortable way, so if possible we would like to avoid it.

So basically; anybody have any experience in flying with emotion (or comparable) wheels and if so; how is it handled?

I suggest you also post your question in the CareCure travel forum (http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=66) - there are quite a few folks there with emotion wheels.
