Hi!

Just wondering about using one of these certificates.

I know the room upgrade is good for the next level up room.

For the suite certificates is it good only for their base suite?

Is there any way to upgrade to a higher level of suite?

Does it matter what the originally booked room rate was / type of room booked? If you book a more deluxe room does your suite upgrade go higher too?

Thanks!

Andy,
I've had many different kinds of suite upgrades at various Fairmonts. My experience is you don't necessarily get the lowest-level suite, but certainly you won't likely get the presidential suite either.
You have to call FPC to use the cert. At that time they can confirm to you what is available (or not) and you will know exactly what kind of suite you'll get. If it's not good, you of course can decide to pass on it without doing the upgrade.
You can get the suite upgrade from the Fairmont room level. So say you had originally booked a higher level room than the Fairmont room, you not only get the suite upgrade, but your rate should also go back down to the lowest Fairmont room level. If the agent doesn't do that automatically, just remind them. Saved me quite a few dollars.
But, no, in my experience, the suite you can get into does not depend on the room you booked.
Hope this helps.

Great thanks chop!

I thought I read something about the rate would go down but I couldn't find that thread so thanks for confirming it!

With so many suite types I wasn't sure what was eligible. I guess I'll keep calling too in case there's a cancellation of a suite.

Thanks again!

I usually call the hotel rather than FPC to let them know I'm using an upgrade cert or a suite cert. You can then ask what is available. Sometimes I've been told the upgrade and suite cert will get me the same thing based on their occupancy

the rate is based on what room category is bookable and then you can upgrade to whatever suite is available. the room upgrades work very similar in that if the next category is available then that’s what you get but most hotels are lenient in what you get based on availability.3

have fun!

This has also happened to me.... call to use Room upgrade cert and they can only get me a deluxe room which I'm fine with... When I check in they say I was automatically upgraded and don't need to give them the certificate.

In my experience, I've gotten the best suite available at the property based on availability. And, as shared above you can use the lowest available rate for the room (as FPC Plat Desk reminded me as they lowered my cost) or combine them with free night certificates.

Have a fantastic trip!

Slightly OT but I didn't want to start a new thread.

I called in recently to use the suite upgrade cert and the 3rd night free cert. Now when I check my res on Fairmont.com it shows the total before taxes as more than the cost of the 2 nights? I called in to get them to correct it but it still shows the same total although the agent said not to worry as the rate/night is clearly shown as less. Should I insist on them correcting it?

Nope, I had the same thing happen at Banff Springs, and was told the same thing. No worries at checkout.

The plot thickens...

Now on my Fairmont acct I have new res with a new res# that shows the same dates and the suite upgrade but the rate is much much lower:D It still shows my old res as well...my question is should I cancel my original res and just use the new one...I'm sure it is a mistake rate put in when I requesed the upgrade. I would much prefer this rate and the upgrade but I just don't want to risk losing my res altogether.

I have printed a copy and emailed myself the new res with the awesome rate so I do have proof..but will Fairmont honor it?

Nope, same thing happened to me at Banff Springs. Since my suite was 2 rooms, they technically booked 2 rooms for me. It showed as 2 rez's on my profile, but at checkout it was all merged into one, and my rate (129 per night, 3rd night free) was the final price.
