JetBlue TrueBlue - Unable to get on later flight when original flight goes irrops?

Weird one:

My in-laws had a 12:30 flight out of BOS to PBI that took a mechanical. It's about 5:30 pm and they still don't know exactly when they will be leaving. There's another flight at 6:20, so they asked about getting on that one, since they'd at least know they'd be getting out of Boston sometime this century. The GA told them that, even though there was room on the later flight, they'd still have to pay the change fee.

None of this makes any sense to me. I know that it normally costs cash to go stand-by on an earlier flight, but a later one? With a mechanical? Not to mention that if the delay puts them past 6:30 pm, B6 will have to pay twice as much in compensation. I should point out that they have no complaints about the service at the airport (They also got lunch and dinner vouchers.), but this one seems to go beyond the typical "airlines do things that make no sense." Hey, they're retired and happy to take the free RT ticket. I'm just curious why B6 was so anxious to give it to them.

Anyone out there with any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

The GA is being rather silly. Seriously, that's the best I can do.

I would call the 800 number and try that route to get the change processed. There is no good reason for the company to not permit free changes for a busted plane, especially if the city-pair is the same.

Of course, as I post this it is now 6:28 and the earlier flight is probably gone so not of much help. :o

Thanks, I didn't understand it either, and they're not the most aggressive types when it comes to those things.

They got out at 6:02, so only a free one-way for them.

Mike
