Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Earning Hilton Points with Alamo Rental
Does Alamo impose a surcharge if you select to earn Hilton HHonors Points on a rental like would if you select a frequent flyer airline program? If so, is there a cap to the Frequent Traveler Surcharge of $0.50 per day?
I ask because unlike the airline program which the miles earned depends on the number of rental days, the Hilton Points is just 250 points per rental.
I called Alamo Customer Service asking this, and got passed to three different people -- no one seemed to understand my question and kept saying I need to contact Hilton which does not sound right.

The bonus points are actually given to you when you check in at a Hilton property not at Alamo. As per the offer on the Hilton honors website:
Alamo Rent A Car
Earn 250 HHonors bonus points whenever you rent from Alamo in conjunction with your qualifying stay at any HHonors hotel. Just present your Alamo car rental agreement or keys when you check-in at the hotel.

That's strange... I've gotten Hilton points on Avis rentals and Marriott points on Hertz rentals without staying at a hotel.

It's different for Alamo. There's a field in the HHonors screen on the front-desk computer for a rental car bonus. The check-in agent needs to select Alamo on that field for you to get the credit.
It might be hard for them to find since few people actually ask about it. But it's there. It also probably won't interfere with your ability to earn airline miles/other hotel points AS WELL by providing that info to Alamo at rental time.
(Same goes for National and Thrifty, as I recall.)

Back in the day....as they say...National used to be able to Credit HH points within the rental. Not sure if Alamo could too. But it was told to me that Hilton wanted to make sure you were actually Staying with them to earn the points so THEY wanted to be the ones to credit the points.
SO...
We were told to tell cust's that if they wanted to get their HH points to show their rental contract to the Hilton Desk Agent and they would credit on their end.

News Flash...
As of Sept 4...Alamo and National will be able to give credit for HH at time of reservation...most likely at time of rental if you forgot to do it at time of res.
Got notice today 9/3/09...
So now ya know. As things change I try to let you in on what I can. This is certainly a kewl thing.
