JetBlue TrueBlue - Buying points question

I have 88 points.12 points expire on Aug 15th and another 12 on Aug 23rd.
The rest I have a lot of time before they expire.
I have a roundtrip flight from JFK to Vegas Aug 20th returning Aug 29th.
I booked before the triple points promo so only 12 points per flight.
I also have another trip JFK to Vegas in Sept with the triple point bonus.
My question is should I buy points to get to 100 before they expire or should I just let the first 24 points expire and then get them back with my August flights and then hit the free ticket in Sept.
And if I buy points do I need to buy 15 points or can I buy 10 points to get to 98 and will Jetblue comp me the 2 missing points.I have heard on this forum that that can happen.
Thanks for any advice.
p.s. I do fly from JFK to Vegas quite a few times per year.
I'd let the points expire and then let the new earnings top you off for the reward ticket. The other points are going to have reasonably little value as soon as TB morphs into TB2 so buying now to have it issued means spending more out of pocket for the same eventual result - one reward ticket and some orphaned points.

I didn't realize how worthless the old points would be in the new system.
I thought that if I bought the points to top up my balance to get the free ticket would be the way to go.
I would then have 60 old tb points going into the new system.
Shouldn't Jetblue have a way to transfer the old points to new.
As 60 points is over half way to a free roundtrip ticket.
Changing to a new system should not penalize the old customers who have collected points.
I agree that they should have found a way to make old point convert to new rather than leaving them to die in the old program, but that's not the choice they made. Armed with that information I'd not invest any money in maximizing the number of old points I hold.

Maybe they figure that people not reading FT will not realize this in time to move their August and September travel to other airlines.
But that's too cynical, and I don't believe it. In fact, I hope that some conversion of old to new points will be added. With absolutely no inside information, just past experience with other programs, I rate the chances at more than 50%. Once the complaints start, JetBlue will likely throw us a bone.
JetBlue could avoid the complaints by fixing this before TB2 begins.

Can someone please clue me in to why being able to convert new points to old is not as good as what you're asking for (converting old to new)

Mostly because it forces the new, "better" points into the old, "worse" program. They talk about just how awesome the new program is, with lower redemption rates, no blackouts, etc., but that turns out to be a tease because of the way the conversion from old to new works.
Say you have 20 TB1 points. To redeem a TB1 award you'll have to earn 16,000 TB2 points (200:1 ratio). Those 16K TB2 points are supposedly worth more than one r/t on the TB2 scheme in most cases but converting them to the old isn't even a full old reward - you need the orphaned points still in your account, too.
I somewhat understand not converting the old points forward 1:200, but only a tiny bit. For most people the old points will simply expire out month by month and they'll be irrelevent quite quickly. If you have ~75 points or more it probably would make sense to try to get to 5000 points and cash out the TB1 reward, but anything much more than that and it starts to become very questionable, IMO.
Of course, this depends on what the actual TB2 redemption details prove to be, but I can only go based on what I've heard so far.

Tks.for quick reply.
I had already booked my Sept. JFK-SJU prior to registering for triple points promo.
Now that I have registerd for the promo,I am thinking about changing that booking for an upcoming Oct. or Dec. trip and paying the $100 change fee.
and re-booking the Sept.trip ($32 base fare increase).
Considering I have 28 points,do you think this is prudent ?

That would be $132 for 12 additional points, right? The 28 points you have now would become 64. But then you're looking at TB2 taking over. So you'd have to earn 7200 points and convert them over to the old program to redeem that reward.
I probably wouldn't pay extra for it (and just hope the points actually show up anyways). Spending extra for TB1 points just doesn't make sense to me.

You're probably right,,,,will just wait it out and see what happens.
Have until May 2010 till old points expire.
