Alitalia MilleMiglia - Alitalia 609 JFK-FCO May 2010, Help!

I am trying to figure out which type of flight/plane/seating I have for my flight booked through Orbitz for next year, I believe the flight is a codeshare but I am not sure:
Sat, May 15, 2010
Departs 1:15pm, Arrives 7:20am
Delta Air Lines 6334
Alitalia 609
Norfolk, VA to Rome, Italy
Sun, May 30, 2010
Departs 9:50am, Arrives 1:15pm
Alitalia 608
Rome, Italy to New York, NY
Sun, May 30, 2010
Departs 3:25pm, Arrives 5:10pm
Delta Air Lines 6406
New York, NY to Norfolk, VA
I am confused as to why the flight to Rome is listed as one flight even though we fly from Norfolk to JFK and from JFK to Rome, while the flight back is listed seperately for both legs. I am trying to figure out if the carry on baggage policy will be enforced by Delta or by Alitalia on our flight from JFK to FCO, AND what our seats are if we have been assigned 10G, 11G, and 12G through Orbitz in case we are not sitting together and I want to call and change.
Any ideas/suggestions/knowledge would be much appreciated. Thank you! :)

Alitalia 609 is going to be on an Alitalia airplane. Most likely a 767.
11G, 12G, and 13G are aisle seats and are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rows in coach...
Check out www.seatguru.com. It's great for this stuff.

It's one of the games that airlines play... code-sharing flights with other alliance airlines in order to give their flights higher priority on travel booking engines. In your case, even though your flight(s) may have the same AZ flight number, you will be on two different airlines (DL and AZ) and two different aircraft.
The only downside for the traveler is that you will receive fewer miles with the one flight number... only theoretical ORF-FCO nonstop miles instead of ORF-JFK and then JFK-FCO miles.

To the OP: One thing you will notice is that Delta does a lot of schedule changes, and it appears that they have done one on your itinerary.
Your 1:15pm departure is now a 1:09pm departure - nothing serious, but it does sometimes mess up seat assignments on Delta.
Here is what your itinerary probably looks like now:
DL 6399 depart ORF 1:09pm arrive JFK 2:35pm
AZ 609 depart JFK 4:55pm arrive FCO 7:20am+1
KVS is showing AZ 609 as a 767-400. Knowing Delta, there might be
half a dozen more schedule changes between now and then - just keep
an eye on it every once in a while.
I am a bit curious about your seat assignment question and about "sitting together" - you are basically sitting in back of one another - one person per row. The 767 is configured 2 - 3 - 2, so there might be better options if you are traveling with others.

Check out www.seatguru.com. It's great for this stuff.AZ has a number of different seating configs for the 767's. Seatguru only shows one of them. See the sticky on the top of this thread.

Actually, I believe you are mistaken and all of the 767s have the same seating configurations now.

Don't you mean 767-400? At least that's what the screenshot you posted says :)
764 is the codename for AZ 767-300.
Don't ask me why, but being italian nothing surprises me anymore :-)

It is a 767-300 that has the upgraded business class seats.
