man good thing, $19 comes w/ a bathroom. I'd be sad w/o a toilet. :D

This is certainly an interesting promotion...but think of the labor they will have to use to get the bed out of the room...all the extra work for a lower nightly rate!

I'd be willing to go down to the $139 rate as long as the windows can be opened. :D

Ahh, my brother-in-law told me about this a month ago and I forgot to post it!

This was on the front page of the union tribune today (you can see a photo of the room at signonsandiego.com).

I just hope some other brands follow suit and we can get some nice mattress runs going. Without the mattresses of course.

For a local, $19 for breakfast for 2 is not a bad deal.

I may be interpreting it wrong but I think $19 means you get a roof over your head and a bathroom. Nothing else. Breakfast is the first thing on the list you must choose to sacrifice.

Breakfast is the first "option" to remove from the price....and it goes down from there....

Ahhhh, of course, you are right. I skipped from the first price to the last. Ah well, I didn't want to drive to Rancho Bernado anyway. Still, if I were a bit more local (within a 5 minute drive) I'd do it just for the fun of seeing the room without a bed. It's a nice hotel, btw.

$39 seems okay. Does it get really hot wherever this is? I wonder how many people go for the $199 rate because they just cannot give up the honor bar.

If only I could get this at some chain hotel.
Would be great for a mattress.. err well mattressless run.

I'm guessing they leave all the amenities in the room and charge you based on what you decide to use. Perhaps the thermostat and light switches have a tamper-evident paper seal across it...

Apparently they pitch a tent in an empty room. It would be a great deal if you are staying there with kids - book a comfy room for yourself, and let the kids have a safe adventure of camping in their tent.

From bobofoosh's reference, The San Diego Tribune:

It takes about 90 minutes for hotel staff to disassemble a room for a $19-a-night guest.

There's a better photo (than CNN's) here: signonsandiego (http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/aug/07/1b7rancho211244-19-youll-get-nothing-and-it/?business&zIndex=145404)

This is too funny. This is a nice place with a good spa. Stayed there last year (but had a bed :) ). I suppose it would be good for someone like me who prefers to camp sans bugs.

About the dumbest promo I've seen. As far as deluxe spas go, I bet 4 seasons is doing better with 3 for 2 and 2 for 1 night offers.

But those offers don't get this kind of free nationwide press.

I can see people using this as buy one regular room for themselves and another with the tent for their kids, who would probably have a blast.

it seems at $19 there are no lights... I wonder if they power the outlets so you can bring your own light and fan!

What if someone chooses the $59 "without linens"? There's still a bed in the room, so this sounds like a hygienic nightmare to me.

For $9 they lock up the bathroom and give you a balcony room with a hose!

I was going to give this a go, just for the novelty of it. But after calling reservations I found that in addition to the $19, there is a $20 resort fee and a $15 parking fee. Total = $54. But they do leave a single light for use in the bathroom for safety reasons.

I considered doing this but after finding out the extra fees involved, I'd rather pay $85 to stay at a Hampton Inn. Plus my wife would have killed me.

this would be a great way to host interviews or if you needed a place to work outside your office.

I did interviews once with a F50 company where we had our info session in a ballroom, but the interviews were conducted in hotel rooms. It was a bit weird when you're having an interview and there's a bed right next to you.

also, with internet, local calls, and a desk+chair you're set to work. it beat the price some daily office rental outfits charge.

suprised nobody on here tried to book the whole month like in the past w/ the KIX hotel and other epic cheap hotel stays.

Except that you have to NOT use the lights! (Except the one in the bathroom.)

And the total is $54 PLUS tax (after adding the parking & resort fee), so not really such a steal after all. Couldn't you rent a daily office for that price?

This is just too much of a gimmick. I could perhaps deal with no bed and no lights (if I brought camping gear, i.e, foam pad, sleeping bag, battery-powered lantern, etc.), but the extra fees and tax end up making it not really a bargain.
