Check-In:
Arriving relatively late in Heidelberg, the S5 took me to the Poststrasse stop, which is a stone throw away from the property. Public transport is available multiple times an hour from the railway station three stops down to Poststrasse, cab should be around Euro 5-6 for a 2-3 minute ride. Two managers on duty at this late hour assigned me room No. 125, a queen on the first floor. Rate was Euro 129 ( 2 for 1 ) bringing it down to 64,50 per night. I was told that PC Gold and Platinum members are given a room on the club floor, but no access to the club lounge, which is located on the ground floor. Access fee is a whopping Euro 59 per day per room. 2 small bottles of Gerolsteiner water provided free of charge in the room. Flat fee mini bar available for Euro 6 ( 2 bottles of beer, juice, water and coke plus some peanuts )
Rooms:
Recently renovated typical 4 star Crowne Plaza room in Europe, relatively small, but the desk has a decent size, same with the bath, the lounge chair offered more style than substance. Internet is Euro 22/day offered by a rather obscure provider.
Parking: NA
Gym/Spa:
Big pool, jacuzzi and sauna in their spa located in the basement of the property. Gym is located in the annex of the hotel, a typical 1970/80s Passage style building. Used to be an office room, which became the gym, open 24 hours. Equipment in decent shape, but rather old.
Misc.:
An internet cafe is part of the Passage adjacent to the hotel, offering internet access for Euro 1.20 per hour. Hertz office can be entered from the hotel lobby. Penny grocery store located right next to the back entrance of the hotel.
Summary:
Solid performer in an area, where thee other Holiday Inn properties are within 15 kilometers. Crowne Plaza in Europe is somehow lost between mostly 4 star Holiday Inn`s and the more upscale Intercontinental properties, so more or less always too expensive or not unique enough to provide value over a Holiday Inn. Considering the 2 for 1 promo, a good alternative for the area, however at 129 per night clearly overpriced.
