I have yet to read the rules but will before submitting any photos.

Read the rules very carefully.

# You hereby grant American Airlines the following rights:

1. An irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free perpetual license to use and exploit the Submission, including, without limitation, the title(s) and each and every element of the Submission, in whole or in part, in any and all manner and media throughout the world; and
2. The right to use your name, voice, image, likeness and biographical data in connection with both the Submission and the Promotion, including, without limitation, in credits, advertising, publicity, promotional and marketing materials.

5. You will not issue any publicity concerning American Airlines and/or the Promotion;
6. You are not entitled to any compensation or other payment from American Airlines in connection with the Submission; and
7. American Airlines has not made any promises or representations to you in order to induce you to provide the Submission ......... etc.



If I understand correctly, any photo you submit belongs to AA.

They can use it, but they don't own it. The license is non-exclusive so you can continue to use it for other purposes. But the terms are a bit too much for my typical pleasure.

Thanks for the correction. Is it typical for entities to apply the rules to all photos submitted? I can understand that they want rights to the winners, but submissions strikes me as a productive way to gain access to many photographs.
