View Full Version : Moving from C seat to F seat

I fly on rhe 17th to CDG in Business Class.
I booked a seat on row 11, and often, I check the seat map to see if there is a better seat in the first section of the Biz Class with no success...
This afternoon, I found that there was a lot of C seats available, including in F, which will be used as Biz Class. Then, I changed my seat to a First Class seat... I received the confirmation from LY...
Tonight, I check my account, my F seat is booked, but, what is strange is that the seat map shows that the entire Biz Class (except my previous seat on row 11).

What do you think?
Will I be indeed seated in the "first" class?

I don't understand what your saying...?

The seat map in this case will usually show rows 2,3,10,11 for biz while 12 and 13 will be Y. If the seat on 2 or 3 shows as available than you can have the first seat for free. I've also noticed that the seat assignment in the e-club page only reflect the change after 2-3 days. It's best to call LY and ask.

This happened to me several times already - Get a C seat and "upgraded" to F seat with C service - Usually happens to me on the TLV-LHR route. Again Kudos for LY on this one.

This is called Extended Business class, I dont have a clue why they call
it this way but its due to the following scenarios:
1. There are less than 36 Business seats taken on the flight, And not F class
reservation, That case, Row 2,3,10,11 will be used for business.
row 12,13,14 will be used either for economy overbooking or will be sold
for 250$ as business seating, economy service.

2. There are more than 35 Business seats sold and no F class reservation,
GL,PL, TPL will be seated in 2,3 the rest 10,11,12,13,14 (If 2,3 wont be all filled by GL,PL,TPL, Then the remaining seats will be offered to the other business class pax for 250$).

In this time of the year scenario no. 1 is more common...
Next week Sunday 9:30am LY323 will be like this, Also Friday's LY324.

(It seems EL-AL is doing quite nice money (well better than not doing it at all)
from the Business/First seating charge... I know some happy parsers... thet get comissions for every $ spent on the plane including seating/onboard upgrades).

How's your leg ysmisc?

Thanks,
Ebzed.

I saw a third case only once - Business nearly empty but F seats C service still sold for $$$ to Business class passengers - Other times got F seat with C service for no charge.
(On the personal side - My leg is much better thanks - Can walk again)

I am not a big fan of seatmap, but the easiest way to see if F is being sold
or not, is to use ifly from elal, It will either tell you no available seats or
no available class.
Then you can call in advance to EL-AL call center and ask them to put you in the F seating with business service

I indeed flew on seat 3C and it was great as a C seat :)
Service was good today, and the breakfast was quite good, too

Well Breakfast not much different beside the way its delivered to you (nicer plates and etc), The eggs will be probably the same...

Lunch/Dinner, Is really something else... 4 course, Tapas, Then Salad or Soup, Main course and desert.
Really good quality.

For me today Difference between C & F Is Service and Food, The seats, i find both uncomfortable, But once i manage to sleep i dont care much.

Indeed, the seats are not so different, and I found the F seats not so comfortable when flat

I called El Al about this and they made me fill out a request form online to move from C to F. They said that if it clears, I'll find out at the airport and it'll be $200. Anyone else experience this? Is this the same as Extended Business Class and do you usually have to pay for it?

Yes, You were probably pointed to:

If you are TPL/PL you will probably wont pay for it...

I'm not TPL/PL.

When I look on KVStool, it shows that there is no more F avail, yet many C seats. When I spoke with LY, she told me that C was sold out and that there were F seats left. Not quite sure which is true.

If all the C is sold and they open F, won't they just move people to those seats for free? Or will all non-TPL/PL passengers have to pay (like myself).

If they sold all C it doesnt mean they will open F for F Seating C Service,
If there will be overbooking then they will the special seating...

In any case, They will do first do TPL/PL/GL then try to sell it...

Hmm, well I took a shot. I figure not everyone tries to do it, so maybe I have a chance (even if its small).

You took a shot and did what?

Meaning I requested a first class seat. Chances are I won't get one as I'm not TPL/PL, but I took a shot and made the request and will hope for the best.
