Avis - Avis @ IAH - Paperless doesn't work well

So, in an effort to go green, the IAH location is one that, on most days doesn't print out a contract for preferred members until you pick up your car. Here's the rub...if your flight is delayed (or you have to wait for a second rental car bus...) and you aren't there within 30 minutes of your reservation, they pull your name off the wall. Why do they ask us our flight numbers if they can't match it up to delays?

Here's the best...three weeks ago I got to the rental facility at 11:08 (my reservation was for 11:00). Had to stand in line forever at the preferred counter, and by the time they got to me it was after 11:30 so they told me I was over 1/2 an hour late. Then, to top it off, said the best they could give me was a Hyundai, after telling every one of the men ahead of me that they'd been upgraded to the new camaro. Now, I'm not one to play the gender card, but I can't help but think that I got the cruddy Hyundai because I'm female. Don't treat me special, but treat me equal. If they were out of camaros, upgrade me to something else, especially after I heard the other 6 people get upgraded. I rent from that location at least 40 times a year.

So bring it up when you get your car. Ask, how come everyone in front of me got a Camaro.

Why do people seem to deal with what they get on site, and then come back to this board to complain about it? Be proactive. Ask for what you want.

And the Hyundai might have been an upgrade. The Sonata is a 4-door full-size, so if you reserverd an Intermediate or Standard, you got a 2 class upgrade.

That's funny about IAH: I was there a month ago as a CHM with a reservation for a Luxury car. They refused to give me Camaros or Infinitis saying that they NEVER upgrade to specialty/cool cars. Then they offered me an H2

Also, I've had smaller locations pull flight #'s so they know when you're coming, so that works well. I do wish that larger locations would do the same thing, though.

Even though your name is off the wall, often they don't cancel the reservation, so if you hunt for your name in the lot you might get lucky.

Alternatively, you can call them ahead of time and tell them you'll be early/late, and they'll give you the spot number over the phone.

If you can ever get anyone at a large location to answer the phone. I've NEVER had any luck with this. WHen I left my computer in a car at MCO, I had to call the PC desk who called & called a "special number" until thtey got MCO to answer.

I hate IAH. I fly into HOU a couple times a month. Unless you meet near the airport the HOU airport will get you out so much faster that you can be at your destination at least thirty minutes faster with less hassle.
